The was precious little seafood and a lot of vegetables. The two scallops appeared to be punched out stingray wings and not genuine scallops and the calamari and prawns were hard to find. The meal was just average. The service was adequate but nothing special.I won't be hurrying back.
Arrived for lunch. offered water or chinese tea (not complimentary), 2 staff only hovered until we ordered. food came out individually and was still cold. some sent back to be reheated it was so cold. seasonal vegetables was about 1 kg of cold broccoli, undercooked, 2 bits of carrot ring and 1/2 can of chinese corn. supposed king prawns were very tiny. most meals (8 on table) were very underpar. even rice was too cold. considering they were bringing the meals out 1 at a time there was no reason not to be piping hot. on the bill we were charged for 4 chinese tea as they kept filling the teapot even though not asked to do so, and kept filling cups and water even when we said no. wine list only had house wine in a glass, all other wine you had to buy a bottle. restaurant had no ambience, just sterile. would not recommend. many better chinese restaurants around.
Recently we took our visitors from Tasmania there for dinner. Recently changed hands with minor renovations. Service was fast and friendly. Typical Cantonese cuisine, tasty and flavoursome. Much improved on the old San Choi. Recommended
Enjoyed our meal. San Choi now was delicious (I had duck) vegetarian sprig rolls also delicious. Mains were slightly bigger than we anticipated but delicious. Good food, good staff, a little pricey but not over the top. Will be back
Arrived here as second choice by accident. Previously known as San Choi but has been operating under new owners since about November 2016. Very welcoming greeting, comfortable furniture and decor. Waiters attentive and freely offer suggestions without pressure for the specials, which, believe me, are really good. Despite minimal noise dampening decorations, the level was surprisingly acceptable. Two of us had Peking Duck and Abalone for Entree and one had Tiger Prawns with XO sauce while my companion had a Medium rare steak with a magnificent sauce. Both were exceptional and the staff frequently supplied fresh plates and finger bowl as well as napkins to clean up our mess which we invariably made. Desert was something I had never even heard of let alone tasted. It was a specialty of deep fried mini puff pastry filled with a special mixture of an ice cream like substance. Delicious. Good wine list, a bit on the high priced side but, again, worth it. Left feeling very satiated and with a happy feeling, which, after, all, is part of the reason to have a good meal. Overall a very good evening.
