Building is dated and actually looked closed when we pulled in, but shouldn't be adeterrent to stopping here for a bite to eat. I would eat here again.
Great little bar in Kalkaska! Fantastic food and service!! Seafood stuffed mushrooms! Amazing! The French dip!!! Yea!!! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
After we were sitting there for 10 minutes, the waitress brought the next table waters and took their drink order. They had arrived a few minutes AFTER us. We were already thinking about leaving, then she took our drink order. Well, part of it, anyway. She took 2 of the 3 people's drink order, then walked off. We left. Turns out to be a good thing. We discovered Trout TownTavern and Eatery. Better service. Better menu. The food was good, too. Skip Up North. Go to Trout Town.
We had a nice waiter S . After bringing our food he didn't check on us once. It wasn't busy either. But the 2 other tables he had that had 4 each he checked on them multiple times. The food was a little on the expensive side for a gyro and club. It wasokay but nothing great. This is the 2nd time here and I am sorry to say its not one of our favorite.
We stopped in Kalkaska on our way home and stopped at the Up North Grill for a late lunch. There were only a few customers at the bar, we sat at a table nearby. Our waitress was awesome and was very attentive to our needs. We ordered a couple appetizers. The Mile High nachos were any but that. They were maybe 2 chips high. For cheese they used the liquid type. Not our favorite. Our other tizer was the wonton. They were good. Will we return? Not until we try all the our restaurants in the area.
