I enjoyed this restaurant very much, however the prices are a little high. I will go back, however because there are other things on the menu I want to try, and since I'm staying at the Krystal, it's very convenient.
Decided to give Bogart's a try for a family vacation dinner. The inside has an Indian decor. Our waiter, Freddie, was a very nice gentleman and tried to make this a classy dinner. He was very courteous and helpful. The menu was a nice change from the usual taco, burrito, and tuna steaks found on most menus. They offered lamb, salmon, and cuts of beef. I had the steak, but found the meat to be dry and tough. The side dishes consisted of no more than a few small pieces of squash and bell peppers. The other dinners also were not very good quality. Looks like this place was nice at one time, but is past its prime. Would not recommend.
We went on a weekday and they gave us our choice of seating. It was nice to have a big booth with a view of the room. We had caesar salad, pepper steak, wine, and dessert. It seemed like they had no staff supporting the waiters. Ours was in charge of 2 tables and easily distracted so he had trouble completing tasks. This restaurant has the caesar prepared at your table, but it took this guy 4 tries to assemble the ingredients on the cart. The steak was large enough and good with the sauce on the side. The veggies and potato side servings were very small. Our waiter did not recommend the chocolate cake, said there was no ice cream or other cake and insisted on making us crepe suzettes. Again the problem assembling the ingredients. From ordering Spanish coffee and a piece of cake, it was an hour later when we both had creppes and he was starting the painful process of assembling the ingredients for the coffee. We cancelled the coffee and begged for our bill … which we got 30 minutes later. Looping music was grating after two hours. For a nice night out, we enjoyed the Ixtapa marina restaurants and Las Barisas II (by the water) much more.
We reserved a table for my birthday and were disappointed that it's lost the romantic ambience it once had. First off, we were greeted in a rather off-hand manner by a man who couldn't be bothered to say good evening, hello or other greeting which is quite the opposite of what it once was. We asked to be seated in a booth which seemed to irritate him as well.Once seated, we got a server who was very friendly and attentive so that made us feel a little better but as we sat there we noticed that the pendant light over our table was burnt out which meant we had to try to read our menu by the table lamp which was inadequate so my husband used the light on his phone which I saw some other people doing as well. They have also stopped using the fans over each table which used to create some of the Casablanca ambience to the room but we also noticed some of the fan blades were missing and other neglect. They've discontinued serving sorbet between the appetizer and entrée which was a nice touch. By far, the worst part was the piped in "music". Not only are the speakers blown so it comes out with nothing but treble but instead of the middle eastern instrumental music they used to play which added to the ambience, they now play redubbed tunes ranging from Stevie Wonder to Led Zepplin which aren't even the original artists songs but cheap remakes by other artists. Really bad and played too loud making you want to get out of there rather than enjoy your dinner. The food is quite good. I had steak and lobster to celebrate my dinner... it was good but slightly overcooked. Overall, I was quite sad to see how it had changed. Maybe if you didn't know how nice it used to be you'd still find it enchanting but we were disappointed. I hope they'll return to some of their original style. It used to be so romantic there.
