My first bite I had to spit out. mac and cheese was rubbery and didn?t taste good. The only thing that was edible was thesausage and I can rate that as a 5 out of 10.
Hot Mess BBQ Soul Food is a small store, what we call a mom and pop store. Basically, a cashier and a kitchen person run this place. We ordered food from this store twice. The first time we got some ribs and today, we picked up some brisket. All I cansay is they have some good food. We found the soul in their food. We must support small stores run by minorities that aremaking a genuine effort at hard work and producing good food. Both times, they were fast. They have a small dining area. Pleasedon?t expect anything free. They are new and meat is not cheap. We must give them an opportunity to turn a profit, becomesuccessful and make a longtime presence in our community. We really need more small businesses and mom and pop stores. Smallbusinesses are a fundamental pillar of the US economy and Albuquerque?s economy. Some of the reviewers stated that the food didnot meet expectations. This happens. We fall in love with something we ate somewhere or something we ate for a long time. Thatalone does not make the food at Hot Mess BBQ Soul Food bad. It may take some of us time to appreciate the taste of a newplace. Soul food, like any other food, comes in varying tastes and shapes. They can still find a place within our tastesystem. Overall, a great experience. I wish these guys all the luck possible to become very successful and be a longtime memberwithin our community.
Really disappointed, I wanted some great fried chicken and greens. We ordered the catfish , Mac n cheese A side of beans. The other order was 2 dark meat fried chicken with greens and a side of coleslaw. Peach cobbler for dessert. The catfish and beanswere great. The Mac n cheese was horrible! The fried chicken was very dry and no taste as with the coleslaw had no taste . Thegreens were excellent. Peach cobbler tasted and looked many days old. $40 on a lunch and only 3 items we were able to eat.
This is some really good barbecue. We had. The sampler which had brisket pulled pork, half a rack of ribs and some sausage. The ribs were excellent and so was the brisket. The pulled pork had a lot of fat in it and the sausage was pretty good. They have agood hot barbecue sauce or you can try the mild. We also had the fried okra which was excellent and we had the macaroni andcheese which was a little dry. They don't have fountain drinks, only canned and bottled sodas and Arizona tea and water. There'snot a whole lot of room to sit in the restaurant itself so you may have to take it to go. I plan on going back to try thecatfish and the wings.
Not bad, but just off the mark for a southerner. No sweet tea was available so that's one star off ????????. I ordered the Southern Fries with okra and my son ordered the catfish. The portion was awesome ????????. No fountain drinks available????????. My son loved the Mac and Cheese saying it was some of the best he's had ???????? I would recommend it but with atouch here and there, it would be a complete soul food place.... everyone in the south knows soul food places have hot sauce onthe table ????
