The selection of sides was impressive and typical for a BBQ spot—baked beans, green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, spicy home fries, mac and cheese, and more. I opted for the coleslaw and spicy potatoes, and both were quite good. The coleslaw was creamy, a bit on the sweet side, and not overly finely chopped, which I enjoyed. They added red cabbage for a pop of color and a slightly different taste. The spicy potatoes featured a delicious mix of tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers, with just the right amount of heat. I also tried the mac and cheese that one of my companions ordered as a side. It was average, tasting more like it came from a cheese sauce than from being baked. Another aspect that fell a bit flat was the bun: it was a decent-sized hoagie style, perfect for holding the generous portion of pulled pork, but it was just a plain white bread bun. A toasted bun or one with a bit more flavor would have beautifully complemented the delicious pork. For these reasons, I rate this experience a 4 out of 5. If it weren't for the pulled pork, which was undeniably a 5, my rating would have been different!
I visited this restaurant for the first time and it was absolutely fantastic! The BBQ ribs were outstanding— the meat just slid right off the bone. They also added a spice rub that enhanced the flavor beautifully. The pinto beans and potato salad were great additions as well! I can't wait to explore more items on the menu. The staff was friendly and very helpful with the menu selections. Thank you all for a great experience!
I never got the chance to visit Danny D's, but I'm really glad I tried Soulman's! The vibe here is super relaxed, and the cafeteria-style serving makes it hard to choose because all the sides look so tempting on the steam tables. On my first visit, I went for the Soul Bowl, which features a mix of the best items: sausage, pulled pork, beans, cheese, and peppers served on a bed of Fritos—definitely took me back to my college days! When I came back for a second visit, I decided to try the brisket and ribs, accompanied by fried cabbage and spicy potatoes as my sides. Both meats were significantly above average, but the real highlight for me was the spicy potatoes! They were perfectly seasoned home fries, tossed with onions, peppers, and just the right amount of spice. They might be one of the best side dishes I've ever had at a BBQ restaurant!
I enjoyed a fantastic pulled pork sandwich topped with slaw! All of their smoked meats were incredibly appealing, from the brisket to the ribs and sausage—I only wish I could have tried them all! The staff was also very welcoming and friendly.
