Dairy Twist - Hill City

Walk up restaurant/ice cream shop, seating is limited inside, plenty of parking spaces and a few picnic tables outside. We were pleasantly surprised on the selections offered. I personally ordered a custom shake Caribbean Cruiser 2 words, loved!! Cash only, no credit card allowed.

I do not recommend this little snack shack. I ordered a basket of shrimp and ate it when I got home and the first piece I ate still had the tail attached to it. I started choking. Seapack frozen shrimp is better than this choking hazard. The lady at the window was also rude and sassy. Do yourself a favor and skip this snack shack.

We ordered Milkshakes and received soft serve ice creams in a cup with a spoon. My shake(soft serve was supposed to be Lemon but was pink and the women working tried to tell me it was pink lemonade and lemon and that pink lemonade and lemon ice cream are the same exact thing. The food was very bland fried food and they forgot the sauces. The women working the window was very rude and had no customer service skills. We ate all over the Black Hills during our stay and this was the worst food and by far the worst service we had. The owner/manager needs to check herself on how she talks to customers and to children, she belittled my child and insinuated she’s never had a shake before and that they always come as soft serve ice cream with a spoon. She also closed the windows in my daughter face when she asked why there were spoons and not straws for the shakes. They only accepted cash and didn’t want to refund us for there fake milk shakes and cardboard box flavored food. They probably get lots of requests for refund and deny them, which is why they only take cash. I recommend the short drive over to Custer for much better food!

I absolutely get excited for spring so they open! They have the best ice cream! Only down fall is they only take cash, but the people are nice and love coming here every year!

Whenever we go on vacation, I make a point to find a place locals like, and Dairy Twist did not disappoint. In fact, we visited this spot twice in our weeklong vacation. The food is great and reasonably priced. My children and I enjoyed great burgers that tasted like they were grilled at home, and my wife got a fried chicken sandwich that was tasty. The fries were hot and delicious as well. The staff was always incredibly friendly and eager to help with recommendations. One small note: it is cash only. However, you stop here for ice cream, and you will love it. If you've ever been in the Omaha area and have tried Zesto's ice cream, it is that level of creaminess, but at a better price. I also got on of their specialty shakes—the Oreo Mint Marvel—the first time, and it just felt like the perfect mixture of flavor and small-town, summer nostalgia. The atmosphere of eating outside was wonderful as well, seeing the hills around you as you enjoy a local hotspot, it was my favorite moment of our entire vacation.
