We had the seafood specials--hake, which was most excellent and hearty portions! The mushroom risotto starter was absolutely fantastic and the dessert: assiette of lemon, was delicious. I'd highly recommend a meal here!
Ideal spot for good food in a cosy,g welcomin atmosphere. Great service and thoroughly recommended even if you are not staying overnight.
My wife and I have dined here on a number of occasions, including a few weeks ago. The food and service are, on the whole, very good. The ambience is lovely, with two sitting rooms with fireplaces operating in winter, in which dining parties are invited to relax in with their menus and drinks prior to moving to the dining area. The mains we have had were savory fish creations, and were excellent, as were the starters. Savory seems to be the theme of the chef, judging from these and other items we 've had. Unfortunately, on both visits, the creme brulee crust topping of one dessert was a bit burned, marring an otherwise fine food ensemble. An oddity is that the diners seem to be separated into two rooms according to those just there for dinner and those staying at the hotel. Is the implication that there are two classes of diners? I was also put off by whom I took to be the head server suggesting (on our latest visit) that we needed to get on with ordering and our meals because they were busy with other customers. My overall evaluation is that the food and service are very good to excellent, except for bizarre letdowns that we 've never experienced in humble hotel-pub restaurants elsewhere in the area.
Had dinner at the Driftwood Brasserie during a stay in Strontian. The hotel is located just on the loch in very neat surroundings. Inside the hotel and brasserie are decorated in line with the local Highlands and the menu reflects the varied seafood sourced locally. Food and service are good our party had starters and mains (mostly fish including trout, sea bass and cod) which we felt were good without being excellent.
We actually ate in the main Restaurant not the brasserie but there isn't a review option for that but the food is the same. This was one of the best meals I've ever had and I've been to a few nice restaurants. I don't understand why it is only Michelin commended and not starred the food we had and its presentation certainly deserved to be. Service was excellent, lovely setting, and we thought it was very reasonably priced for the quality. Cannot praise it highly enough.
