OK. There are plenty of other places around!
Ok coffee, customer service could improve. We stopped off for coffee on a walk around the island. The cappuccini were ok, but the cinnamon bun was stale. The server was a little too direct to the point of patronising around the question of to eat in or take away; I said we would be sitting outside. More training required.
Johan Nystrom coffeshop was mentioned in most coffee reviews in Helsinki. Since we love coffe and Finland is the coffee capital in the world we decided to check it out. The location is great and the coffee shop itself is in a great space. But, it is not enough to make up for the disappointing coffee. The coffee was acidic and the dark roast did not mask the lower grade beans. And the baristas appeared to be nursing a Sunday hangover as they were very grumpy. They do not accept cash or American Express. We ordered a cinnamon bun which I was missing half. When we pointed it it was replaced, unfortunately the replacement was not fresh. In short, a disappointment.
Decent coffee, semi-fresh produce, lukewarm service (as in: can you kindly cut that croissant in half service: there are knives over there...in a nearly empty cafe. Not a place to visit twice. Any Espresso House easily beats this experience.
I visit here often, but lately have been devastated about the customer service. Finnish custom to pick yöurself your water, napkin, cutleries, even the coffee… That’s a sad reality, but today I could not find any pastry fork or spoon and received finally a single use fork ”if this reliefs you at all…” This one example. Coffee is good and the place is eonderful, but the vibe is not so good anymore : … Short on staff, barista’s burn out and tired?
