Cold Rock - HAMILTON SOUTH

The food was amazing and it was really interesting to watch them prepare it. I highly suggest trying the cookie cream loaded shake, it was absolutely delicious. The prices range from $6 to $12.

I understand that it must be cold working in this shop, but the staff have some unconventional ways of keeping warm. I admire their energy, as I too was once young. I tried a unique grey ice cream that I couldn't quite identify the flavor of, but it was surprisingly good. There was a young worker in the back who seemed disinterested and mentioned skipping school the next day to get a slurpee. One of the workers wasn't wearing shoes, but neither was I, so I can't judge. On a separate occasion, I passed by this restaurant and saw two young employees kissing in the window, reminiscent of a scene from a coming of age movie. While their behavior sometimes lacked professionalism, Cold Rock has never failed to entertain me. Overall, it's not a bad spot, although the food can occasionally be served cold.

Terrible smell of off milk. Dirty premises. Dirty doors, dirty tables, dirty chairs. Poor customer service.

Wow this place has gone downhill since our last visit months ago. Two tables outside both dirty with old ice cream and rubbish, the shop had a real old milk smell and the workers were not overly friendly and instead of cleaning were behind...the counter eating the ice cream and then on their mobile phones. I used an entertainment voucher (buy one get one free) BUT the girl who served me took the voucher and charged me full price (I thought for ice cream was a lot but didn’t question it in the end I did call and explained what happened). Won’t be back.

The ice cream and topping selection here is great. You can mix flavours and watch them chop it all up and mix it together on the cold slab in front of you. If you've never been to Cold Rock before and you're not super greedy...I would say order a size smaller than what you think you need as they fill the cup quite high. A "regular" size would be adequate for a young teenager for example. For what you're getting ie. better than average ice cream I would say the price is fair. At this particular branch the staff were friendly and helpful. The premises and the seating area look worn and tired though. Not an issue for most people who just want to get their ice cream and leave.
