The salads are worth trying very tasty and seem to be middle eastern inspired which is bit different from normal cafe fare. The baked goods in particular the gozlemes and the pies (beef and onion) are exceptional. The only real issue is there isn't many seats inside and the seats outside aren't that comfortable.
Barberries? Not this time, perhaps. But Lievito Bakery toast and 'burcher style' muesli are in the pipeline. I hadn't finished the cappuccino before the pipeline brought forth the rest of my order, though; service is prompt! I'm here a little after opening time on Saturday morning and most other customers are making their purchases and making off again. A mynah bird is busy examining next door's fruit and vegetable display. That may account for the strategically placed bunch of grapes in a fork of the adjacent tree... Now another customer has claimed a footpath table. Slow's the go on this 40 km/h strip. With those tasty morsels safely tucked away, it's time for a second cappuccino. Cheers!
Delightful staff, lovely coffee but that's it. Atrocious seats, stupid coffee cups with handles that were impossible to hold. Only tried one dessert - ordinary and had a Fridgy taste. Served with ordinary yoghurt. Air conditioning worked poorly on the hot day. Good concept. Many friends have been there and highly recommend your menus . Won't return until you at least have decent seating. Remember there are so may good places in Bentleigh now to eat and drink - don't be complacent.
Recently went there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look great in design. The shop doesn't have many tables and I personally don't think it looks that inviting. However, we know it is the warm inviting personality and good food that counts. This is where they were best. They had 3 wonderful and very tasty salads, hard to pick from. But I had 2 on a plate and my mate had 2 so we tried all three and they were all yummy, tasty and filling. They say they are a bakery but they should present that part a lot better rather than a awkward size fridge. Definitely worth a visit.
We happened upon The Owl and the Baker just after Christmas. Really friendly and helpful staff. I don't eat eggs but I wanted their 'special" breakfast. No problem. They even asked whether I wanted something in place of the eggs. I am glad I said no as the portion I was served was both substantial as well as delicious.Lovely fresh surroundings. A great addition to Centre Road
