I'm not comparing it to the high-quality pizzas on Lygon Street or trendy hipster versions, but rather to a typical suburban pizza joint. Sadly, Anna Bella's disappoints with low-quality ingredients. Despite advertising as wood-fired, the pizza lacks hand-made touches, fresh herbs, and quality mozzarella. Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a disappointing sight of cheap, no-name cheddar cheese, lackluster anchovies, and what appeared to be low-quality ham. The taste of the ham was bland and unappealing, making it more of a mystery meat. A pizza is only as good as its ingredients, and at Anna Bella's, the ingredients are cheap and unappetizing. Overall, my experience there was greasy and disappointing.
After enjoying delicious pizzas from Anabella Pizza Restaurant on Glen Huntly Road, I had high hopes for their sister shop or franchise. Unfortunately, the two take-away pizzas we ordered were floppy, undercooked, and lacking in both toppings and taste. It seems like they don't know how to make pizza properly. I can confidently say that a $3.99 frozen pizza from Aldi, cooked in the oven for 20 minutes, is a much better choice than this.
