The affable and approachable ee-mo probably makes me hold back on my recollection of the food experience there. Situated in the Level 2 food court of Broadway Shopping Centre, Ilmi offers a limited range of Korean cuisine including Korean fried chicken, burgers and other side dishes. I ordered a half serving of spicy fried chicken and a large serving of kimchi from the outlet last week. The fried chicken was excessively fried and tasted hard and dry. It could probably be a reheated chicken. In any case, the batter was incompatible with chicken. The spicy sauce was poured over rather than mixed with the chicken wings. Hence, the fried chicken tasted superficial and comprised two distinct sections.
This is one of the many food outlets that has opened in the relatively new food court at Broadway. I love Korean and it's a rare cuisine to find in my neighbourhood so I was very pleased to see that they had a spot here. I tried the 'Korito', a Korean twist on the Mexican burrito. This is not traditional Korean food but I still quite enjoyed it actually. I had the kimchi fried rice, beef with gochung (spicy) sauce. They do offer classic Korean dishes like the kimbap, soups and fried chicken so I will be back to try them in the future!!
Ordered kimchi jiggae here for lunch. The combo set came with a drink, the stew, rice and side dishes for $16 (they forgot to give me the side dishes however). I wasnt really hungry so them forgetting the side dishes didnt bother me and i didnt ask for them. The stew was pretty good. It was really well flavoured and had a good balance between spicy and sour. Kimchi stew if not made properly can be too sour however this one was perfect. The other dishes on their menu look quite good and since i attend college nearby i'll definitely be back again soon.
The food is so bad and the portion is too small. I feel like I just wasted my money for nothing. It doesn't even taste good. In fact, I feel so sick after eating it.
Ilmi is a Korean eatery in the new dining precinct of Broadway. There's too many options on the menu, and being unfamiliar with Korean, I opt for an entry level taster, in the form of Korito ('Korean Burrito'). Grilled salmon, black rice, and Gochujang Mayo are my picks in the cutsomisable options, however next time I'll be down for more kick and bigger flavours, as the gochujang is pretty subtle. This was my first time for Korean fried chicken, so can't really compare, but I found the coating rather crispy and crunchy, holding relatively well. We sampled the Garlic Soy, and were impressed. Its only slightly sticky, and doesn't affect crunch. Chicken itself was pretty tender and tasty on its own accord. There's a little bit of a language barrier and it was hard to explain we just wanted the garlic soy chicken, and if that didn't come in a deal that we were okay with that. After a few minutes of confusion we managed to move on. I'll be back for Kimbap next time. crumbs-au.com
