Staff are willing to help out but it felt too burdensome at the end because it was so full on. As much as the help was appreciated, we also wanted some time to chat and chill by ourselves, rather than having to respond to the waitress every 5 minutes. ???? Perhaps expectations were a little high, but overall I felt the meal did not quite meet the mark. The "lamb" roganjosh was the highlight, we really enjoyed it, and it is a dish I would gladly go back for. The other curries were okay, one was quite watered down, but still okay. The honey chilli cauliflower was too sweet unfortunately, so it was hard to have too many. I think if you stick to the curries it shouldn't be too bad, but I have definitely had better vegan Indian curries elsewhere. Highly recommend the lamb rogan josh, but the others will just have to be trial and error.
It is stated outside of the place that, "Green Mushroom is the first ever vegan Indian restaurant." The interior was beautiful, exotic and inviting. We had an experimental start with some Panipuri, which were balls of crispy puri, filled with a spicy consommé. It bursted in our mouths with a distinct refreshing tangy flavour. The highlight of this place is the lamb rogan josh, apparently the owners' favourite. It was full of rich flavour and had a soft crumbly texture even better than real lamb itself! The honey chilli cauliflower was also another favourite, despite the fact it was quite sweet, it tasted exactly like chinese honey chicken. However, the eggplant potato masala was a little bland and appeared to be more attractive than its' taste. In addition the serving sizes could of been a little larger. If you are in a chatty mood, the waitress can give you a whole rundown of the menu which can be helpful if you need it. The staff was overly attentive to the point we were asked after every dish how the dish was, what we liked about it and if we wanted another drink. It almost felt as if we were doing a pop quiz which unfortunately made us want to consume our food rapidly and leave before we failed the test. Despite some stand out dishes, due to the pressure we felt by the waitress who was overly talkative I do not feel the need to return.
A good selection of vegetarian foods. All was very tasty. Despite being a busy night, the food and service was good. A nice cosy atmosphere inside. Food is well priced and portions are fair. Great place to go if you have vegetarians on board as there is a good selection for everyone (p.s I am not a vegetarian)
While visiting the Cruelty Free Shop for the Vegan Day Out, I received a 10% off voucher to visit Green Mushroom. The free complementary chai tea was calming and delicious, it had a strong scent of ginger, but took a while to be served. As for the food items, the chaat papri was... unexpected. I expected it to be a warm curry to dip into the garlic naan bread but instead it was cold and had an odd flavour, however, the sweet potato pieces gave it a nice texture. The fact that all the menu options were vegan was great and I would definitely come back to try the other hot curries, which were a standout for me (particularly the malai kofta) during this trip. The service is one of the best I've seen, with staff being super accommodating but I must say, service was extremely slow even with few diners.
