In 1959, the Mohd Raffe Restaurant opened its first location in Batu Gantong, Penang's race track before it moved to Pulau Tikus in 1998. Despite its small size, this 24-hour shoplot output is exclusively used for ventilation fans. Typical for a Mamak shop, the atmosphere is relaxed and lively, filled with customers and employees who are constantly reversing. During the night, the tables are placed on the shop and the street in front of him to accommodate more customers and create an open-air dining atmosphere. According to a local, this is the nasi kandar outlet from which he was a customer since he was a child. If you are not from Penang, always take the advice of a Penangite when it comes to local cuisine. I had nasi kandar in many places, but Raffe is my favorite. Raffe's Curries and roasted chicken are two of the most popular dishes of Penang; whether you are a Penangite or a first visitor, you will enjoy the food at Raffee, and do not forget to practice physical distancing during the Covid-19 while visiting the famous Nasi Kandar Raffee 295-A Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus 10350 George Town, Penang.
Raffee Nasi Kandar serves her Nasi Kandar from 7 o'clock, but only from 12 o'clock Din. If you come earlier, you can only take. Her nasi kandar engraving is quite tasteful and her fried chicken is pretty good. Nasi kandar as a breakfast item is quite complete, but you should come at 8:00 to be available further options as some items may not be ready by 7:00. They also serve other options such as Roti canai/paratha.
Nasi Kandar, ubiquitous with Penang, can be found on almost any road in Penang. Most of them are quite good, as it seems, a kind of generic flavor served to the curries. So why are some more popular than others? Mohamed Raffe, or locally known as Raffe, has been in the same place for about two decades. During his early days it was simply a Mamak restaurant, selling the usual fare found in most Mamak shops. Since the addition of Nasi Kandar about 10 years ago, lines began to form outside the restaurant for the food. With the social media that continue to expose it, the restaurant now has queues that can see almost 20 to 30 people in the line waiting to order their meal. Parking is difficult in the morning and afternoon hours, as the surroundings lead other cafés and even a park here to the Pulau Tikus market. But don't give up because there is usually a pretty fast circulation of cars. The food is really delicious, intense curries taste a bed of rice, and the meat is perfectly cooked. The fried chicken is also very good (at best to come at 11 a.m., as the first few batches of fried chicken come out and are often refilled with fresh batches). Beef is not too hard, and the lamb is tender and juicy. Prices are very reasonable, and a hearty meal with meat, vegetables and some egg can be used for under RM10. All you need is your meal with a great teh tarik, and you're all set.
Was recommended by a friend who is a local Penangite. Been coming here ever since; each and every time i come to Penang. Can choose to have your kuah campur spicy or not spicy.. There's always a queue, even at night time. But not such an issue cause the queue isn't that long. Service is good, always nice and friendly. But their drinks are too sweet. Have to ask for kurang manis.
