Fantastic local market and sandwich shop! Their crab cakes are absolutely amazing—there's no doubt about the real crab content in them.

Fisherville Lunch Box is located in a charming house on the corner, complete with outdoor seating on the porch and a cozy table inside. I ordered a freshly made Reuben sandwich that was excellent. The sauerkraut was mild and not overly tart, and the corned beef was perfectly seasoned—just the right amount without being salty. They offered a variety of sandwich options. In addition to sandwiches, they have farm-fresh vegetables, preserves, sauces, and Virginia wines, including fruit wines like raspberry, peach, and blackberry, as well as traditional varieties. I picked up two bottles of Bluestone Vineyards Chardonnay 2021, which is barrel-fermented. It was a delightful Chardonnay—crisp, buttery, and smooth, with a subtle fruit flavor and no strong aftertaste. My husband rated it 4 out of 5 stars, placing it among our favorite Russian River Chardonnays. I wish I'd bought a few more bottles, but I wasn't sure how it would taste. I also appreciated that the Fisherville Lunch Box had a clean bathroom accessible through the swinging doors leading to the sheriff's office, especially after driving 250 miles. If I find myself on Interstate 64 again, I would definitely stop by Fisherville Lunch Box for another meal and some more wine. I noticed there’s a gas station on Highway 250, just before the exit to I-64, which could be convenient on the way back.

Great options for seafood on Fridays. Local produce available. Nice selection of deli and sandwiches for lunch. Local wine selection available. Friendly and prompt service.

Little known fact: the Lunch Box sells fresh seafood. We picked up some outstanding walleye at far less per pound and far closer to home than our previous source offered. We're anxious to try the Friday fish fry.
