Well it was worth the wait as we had another great leisurely afternoon lunch with great views from the spacious and light filled restaurant. The staff as always super friendly and helpful with the menu and wine choices. A really good place to order their vegetarian options as full of flavour and combination originality. We had the Crudo Fish, The Asparagus and Burrata, their delicious take on Steak Tartare as shared plate sizes and then the lovely pumpkin and yoghurt salad with a sneaky bowl of chips that comes with yummy ranch dressing. Their concept is 'Planted to Plate ' and it is so true. All up another really enjoyable dining experience and one that we are counting down to do again.
I went to the restaurant on 3 occasions for lunch and dinner. Food was great, I had enjoyed the pork chops and Brussels sprouts so much that I ordered the same dishes in 2 occasions. The restaurant can get a little too lively when it's full house, definitely not a place for quiet dinner. I enjoyed the ambience of the place and the view during day when I was seated near the window on one of the visits. A good venue to chill out after a visit to the gallery and have a good meal.
Matt Moran’s Woolahra restaurant has a second venture in the Art Gallery of NSW. It is a stunning spot in the top level corner of the gallery with a view of the water. It is light and bright and a casual fine dining spot. From their garden they use plentiful vegetables, fruits and salads to produce healthy, fresh and vibrant dishes. A range of entrees, small plates and larger sharing plates. Start with some oysters or bread and a cocktail to get the good vibes happening. There’s a seasonally changing menu with individual meals including snapper, pork chops, scotch fillet, beer battered fish and chips, and shared dishes of trout or lamb shoulder from the Moran family farm, served with carrot, lentil and mint. We then ordered a few mains and in particular loved the beautiful Barra-in-a-bag with saffron, fennel, sea vegetable (It is df and gf). They’ve also got a fab beef tartare. You will need some sides, we opted for the Chiswick Green Salad and Green Beans, but you may prefer toast mushrooms or fries. Fruit inspired desserts, cheese platters and and array of stunning wines and cocktails, you will find this to be a sophisticated dining venue. Make a day of it and visit the Gallery and book yourself in for lunch whilst you’re there.
Great service and fresh food. Views were fantastic. Lamb was flavourful but a little dry. Other dishes were all good. Price is a little high. Overall enjoyed it and would be back again.
Really worth a visit. The room is bright and airy with great views over the harbour and Woolloomooloo. The food is fresh and tasty. The restaurant is one of Matt Moran's; but it is not pretentious or suffy. The service was genuinely tasty. The gallery is accessible for disabled folk.... ring ahead and you can even reserve a little scooter.
