This is a superior restaurant on the lower north shore. It’s conveniently located in the little Quadrangle Shopping Village in Castlecrag, on the corner of Eastern Valley Way and Edinburgh Rd. We dined on a Sun night and found easy parking on Edinburgh Rd, right opp the restaurant. That’s one of the advantages of dining in this area; there’s never a problem with parking! And if it’s raining, or in the unlikely event that you can’t find street parking, there’s always the centre’s own free basement car park. <br/ <br/ There isn’t a lot of competition around here either, which might partly explain the healthy turnout, but these guys deserve to be well patronised purely on their own merits, as this place works well on every level. <br/ <br/ Most of the seating is outdoors although there are a few tables inside. Even though it was a chilly eve in early spring, we sat outside and we were quite comfortable. It’s partly enclosed, with a canvas roof, and they’ve managed to heat the place sufficiently well, that the temp was just right, prob about 22 degrees, so we weren’t too hot or too cold. <br/ <br/ When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by friendly gent, whom I assume was the owner, and made to feel at home straightaway. There’s a small complement of wait staff, comprising said owner/manager/maitre d and two efficient assistants, a man and a woman, both neatly attired in smart white uniforms. And these guys know what they’re about, because the place hums along like a well oiled machine. Throughout the evening, they never missed a beat. And what was so impressive about them was that they just went about their business quietly, efficiently and unobtrusively. They spoke softly and their whole demeanour was calm and professional. One hardly noticed even them<br/ <br/ Our orders were promptly taken, and drinks, entrees and mains came out a steady clip, in the correct order and with a very short wait between courses. It was outstanding service from beginning to end. As soon as we had finished our meals, the bill was on the table, and payment was promptly taken. We were thanked for the small tip that we left. <br/ <br/ And the food was pretty good too. It’s described as “Modern Thai”, and that would seem to be a fair description.Five of us dined and we ordered a selection of mostly chicken and vegetarian dishes. Serving sizes were perfect and every dish was fresh and tasty. The chicken was succulent and tender and flavours were delicate and aromatic, never overdone, just the way we like it. We also ordered a salt and pepper squid, rice and roti bread to go with the chicken dishes. Everyone enjoyed their meals.<br/ <br/ The toilets are just outside the restaurant. They’re pretty ancient, like the centre itself, but clean, adequate and well provisioned, with male, female and disabled options.<br/ <br/ As mentioned, the place was pretty full, which is always nice to see, especially on a Sun night. Tables are large and well spaced out, and as most other guests were quiet and well behaved, we had no trouble conversing.<br/ <br/ This is an outstanding restaurant and we had a fab evening here. Service couldn’t be better. The food is excellent, well presented on stylish crockery and served in generous portions. Ambience is quiet, genteel and relaxed, but not dreary or dull. There’s plenty of free and unrestricted parking underneath the centre or in the street, and the toilets are clean and easy to find. <br/ <br/ With our 25% Ent Bk discount (up to a generous max of $40), we paid $130 for two glasses of sparkling wine, two entrees, four main dishes, two bowls of rice, a single serve of roti bread and grilled cabbage. That was more than enough for five of us.<br/ <br/ I noticed that this little shopping centre is slated for redevelopment, so I suggest that you get here quickly, before they tear the place down, because this is one dining experience that I highly recommend.
