Their portions are pretty small but also the price reflects this small portions. It does get busy around lunch times and the xiaolong bao do run out so If you’re after the xiaolong bao then make sure you come early.Lastly, there’s minimal staff on during lunch times so don’t expect great service, everything is self service.
The food was pretty decent. I especially love their sweet and sour fish and then shanghainese style pork.<br/ <br/ The service is kind of mediocre as the staff do not speak any other language apart from mandarin.<br/ <br/ Great ambiance, pretty high ceiling so we could actually play badminton in here if we book out the place.<br/ <br/ Taste 4<br/ Service 2<br/ Ambiance 4<br/
One of the best shanghainese restaurants I've ever been in NZ. Brings me the memories of home, the flavour of my childhood, the owner is very nice and funny. Great family restaurant.
My go-to Shanghainese place for my family, we love the taste of home town. Qian mentang do the best sheng jian and xiao long bao, honestly delicious and their rice cake is also a house favourite. I tried the shao mai this time too and was very pleasantly surprised about how yummy and generous the servings are. As per usual, we end the meal with pumpkin pie/bing. The waitress is super friendly, not everyone will nod to the service here but I have never had a bad experience. Always craving to come back!
This was our 2nd time here and always impressed with their cooking. Not a big plate of food but they took food very seriously and loved every dish. They serve Shang Hai cuisine and I will see myself come back with family quite often. Not many bread to go with their sweet pork so ordered a 2nd portion of bread, should have steam them a bit longer but rest of dishes are amazing.
