The Golden Cup - East Staffordshire

I had an amazing experience at the Golden Cup restaurant. It had been a while since my last visit due to work and the Covid Pandemic. The food and service were outstanding, especially the Sunday lunch. Thank you, Rachael! Can't wait to visit again soon.

We ordered a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, a decent real ale, but the bar staff seemed inexperienced and needed prompting to top up the pint properly. There was no friendly service from the landlady, as others have mentioned. Both my partner and I ordered potatoes with our main course, but we were served potatoes and chips without any apology for the mix-up. My rump steak, ordered medium to well-done, arrived well-done and had the texture of leather. When we asked for a printed receipt to see what we were being charged for, we were told that they don't provide them. We did a mental calculation of our bill and found it to be roughly accurate. Overall, in light of the lackluster service and quality of the food, we were disappointed. The Golden Cup in Yoxall may have some potential, but they need to work on improving customer service and food quality to make a lasting impression.

Upon arrival, we had mixed opinions of the owner of the restaurant. She seemed to criticize the young staff members who were doing a fantastic job. They were kind, but appeared to be afraid of the owner, Rachel. My husband and I stayed at the restaurant for two nights. The beer garden was beautiful and the evening meal was enjoyable. However, the next morning we found hairs in our breakfast, which put us off. We decided to visit a local Indian restaurant instead, which Rachel kindly took us to and picked us up from. Unfortunately, we did not sleep well during our stay due to noisy floorboards and strange noises at night. Overall, I would not choose to stay here again, but I wouldn't discourage others from trying it out.

Wow. Visited The Golden Cup blindly today, as we were exploring the area and it looked a lovely pub (with a beautiful beer garden that we made use of). We were very impressed by the size of the beer garden and felt covid-safe with the...spacing of tables outside. On arrival my partner was grunted at by a member of staff who uttered “no soup, no omelettes “, and was given one menu after chasing said member of staff around the pub. On ordering, I was made to vacate the bar area and “order at the hutch”, in a pretty unkind demeanour by another member of staff. This was after I politely asked if they were still serving lunch; she had to look at her watch before deciding on her answer (it was No small talk, no smiles and certainly no “thank you” from anyone. In today’s world when so many businesses are struggling, one would think that basic customer service would be key to survival. However, now reading other’s reviews, it seems The Golden Cup has been struggling with the “friendly” concept for a while. It speaks volumes also that these negative (and positive) reviews go unanswered or unaddressed by the management team. I did get one smile off a gentleman who was obviously a member of the kitchen staff, so I don’t think it’s anything in the water in Yoxall. Having addressed the negative, the food was really good! Lovely and fresh, homemade and quick service to our table. I would like to say that we would visit again, but I prefer my service with a smile. Shockingly rude service by all members of staff, not just one….so glad it wasn’t a special occasion for us today.

Had an evening meal at the Golden Cup this Saturday Only had two mains and two deserts but was pleasantly surprised to be served good wholesome food by experienced people. Coming again on this Thursdsy for the scooter rally can't wait.
