Our party was literally told several times by the server that she had a large party following our seating and we had to order food and desserts to vacate the table by 730. I will never return to 636 restaurant and will tell all of Durango what a horrible experience I had dining there. This server needs to be fired. what poor customer service!
I ate at Ken Sues before the name change. I enjoyed that meal and I was excited to try the food at the newly named 636 Main. I brought my Son to Dinner for his 16th birthday. Upon seating, we were greeted LOUDLY by our server. While she had a very direct disposition, she was a nice person who I am sure meant no harm. But she yelled when she spoke and it was jarring. She brought us some (partially stale) bread and we looked over the dirty menus. I opted for the blackened ribeye. My Wife chose the Chicken Piccata and my Son chose the New York Strip (I think). I should mention that, as stated on the menu very prominently, there are NO SUBSTITUTIONS under any condition. This displeased me as I am not a fan of asparagus and I typically like to replace it with a broccoli if available. I guess I 'm out of luck. After an attempt to convince the server that there is indeed a good way to order a rare/medium rare steak, I opted for medium rare. I usually ask for Rare, but not too rare, chef 's choice as I know the chef knows their cuts better than I do. I was not allowed to get that far because our server insisted that I choose one or the other. I paired it with a glass of Sonoma Cab Sauv and waited for my meal. The food was good. It was not the best cut or the best preparation I have ever had (there was a bit of gristle and it was difficult to cut), but the taste was good. My Wife and Son enjoyed their meals as well. Overall, I was disappointed with my experience. That being said, it is far from the worst option in town and I would say that, if other options are not available (Eolus, for example), 636 Main is a good alternative. It seems likely that your experience will be better than mine.
This a great resturant. Casual but very nice. Better make reservations Food is always excellent. Standard specials for each day of the week. Great place for any occasion.
Bottom line: Do not go here. The restaurant is extremely snobby, which would be OK if the food was good. Everyone in my party had overcooked steaks, including mine. I ordered the blackened ribeye, but they dumped a flavorless gravy on top, washing off all the seasoning. When I asked for A1 sauce, the waitress seemed offended. Sides included overcooked gnocchi, also covered in the same bland sauce. They added chopped asparagus to my plate with the inedible fibrous ends. Lucky me. Knowing a NY strip is tougher, someone in my group asked the waitress if theirs was tender. She said, yes, ours is very tender. So, they ordered it, thinking it was marinated, but it came out so tough you couldn 't even stab it with a fork. We mentioned it to the waitress, and she brushed it off, saying, yes, NY strip is a tough cut, then immediately darted away. Excuse me?? You just told us the opposite. If you want a good steak, or a good meal in general, I highly recommend the Animas Grille or a drive to Silverton 's Lacey Rose Saloon. (Lacey 's had the best ribeye and filet I 've had in a long time. Everything at Animas was perfectly cooked and especially the salmon.
The food was not good at all. Ordered chicken piccata and blackened salmon.
