Despite initially thinking there was nothing around for a meal stop, we were pleasantly surprised by this gem. The cafe serves as a hub for social events, with a calendar full of enticing options like Fish and Chips nights, board game evenings, and Mexican food nights. The service was friendly, and the almond soup we had with a sandwich was delicious. They offer board games, magazines, and even a bike pump for cyclists passing through. I would definitely make the detour to visit this cafe again in the future. A must-stop if you're in the area.
While touring around the Lockerbie area, my companions and I stumbled upon this old school that has been transformed into a popular community center. We decided to have lunch there and were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed a delicious homemade leek and potato soup as well as a homemade cheesecake. It was a great idea to repurpose the old school into a bustling community hub for both locals and visitors. We were warmly welcomed and immediately felt right at home.
It was like an oasis. I did not expect to have dinner that evening until the host in my remote bed and breakfast told me about The Old School Cafe. Super variety of dishes. Lovely enthusiastic staff. Beautiful new extension on the back of the old primary school. Also was able to purchase a glass of wine.
Whether you're traveling from Langholm, Lockerbie, the Ettrick Valley or Selkirk you can enjoy a leisurely journey through very scenic countryside and arrive at this little gem. We had an excellent lunch delicious steak and ale pie and tasty vegetarian lasagne, both with a side salad and heavenly chunky chips (although healthier options are available). This is a new community enterprise which is well worth supporting and a great place to go as part of a day out. Excellent value for money, nice surroundings and friendly service!
I stopped by for lunch after visiting Samye Ling in Eskdalemuir. This restaurant is a recently established business located in a beautifully restored building with plenty of room and rooms available for rent. The food was top-notch and all made in house. We tried the homemade soup, steak and ale pies, chips, and a delicious dessert, all of which were scrumptious and great value. This would be a great venue for a party for all ages, as there is ample parking, wheelchair access, and accessible restrooms. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are in need of a lovely space to rent for a small event.
