Black Bull - Dumfries Galloway

We had a nice experience at this cozy restaurant, and most of the food was enjoyable. However, my husband and I were disappointed with our overcooked and rubbery burgers. When we mentioned this to the server, she ignored our complaint and walked away. My burger with chilli was inedible, especially considering the price of over £16. Other dishes, appetizers, and desserts were satisfactory but slightly overpriced. Unfortunately, the lack of customer service in addressing our issue would likely deter us from returning.

The closure of the Black Bull was a great loss for Moffat, but its reopening under a new guise is a welcome change. As someone who has visited the town frequently, I have fond memories of the old pub but the new bistro, bar, and boutique hotel concept is certainly a classy and appealing alternative. While the emphasis is now on dining, I appreciated that the bar aspect is not neglected. Although it may not have the traditional pub feel I usually prefer, I found the ambiance enjoyable and welcoming. Despite my usual preference for traditional pubs over "foodie" establishments, I had a pleasant experience relaxing by the fire with a couple of beers while listening to old crooners at this refreshing new spot.

If you can get here you should definitely eat here. Absolutely fantastic. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. We were in Moffat for a wedding and decided to give it a go the night before the wedding and it was so good we booked a table to come back the night after the wedding. We’re not locals and it was my first time visiting Scotland but we will definitely be coming back and The Black Bull Inn will definitely be on the list.! Staff were fantastic. We had a terrible experience recently and sent an email to their advertised email address and they can't even be bothered to reply to my complaint. I have called several times to discuss also but never anybody available to speak with me. A shambles of a place, room was dirty and smelly, no dinner, no breakfast and no response. Not a great way to run a business and I speak from experience of 23 years in the trade. Avoid !!

We arrived at the restaurant around 12:40 and took a seat. After sitting for 20 minutes without being given a menu or served, I finally had to ask for one. The server then had to check if they were still serving food at 1pm, which seemed odd. After a total wait of 45 minutes, we were finally able to order. Unfortunately, they had run out of the chicken and chorizo fusilli that we wanted to order, which was disappointing. I asked the server to come back in 2 minutes.
