I have usually been impressed with the food in Union Square, but unfortunately had a terrible brunch today. I had the eggs benedict and asked for focaccia bread instead of the English muffin. To start with the plates were cold, the eggs were hard instead of running and the focaccia bread was hard because it was stale. Overall it was very disappointing. On the positive, the coffee was good, but thats about it I am afraid. I wont be heading back any time soon.
Barbara stayed at my place on Friday night, and therefore breakfast/brunch was my responsibility. However, it was too hot to prepare liver, bacon, and poached eggs. I remembered seeing Union Square/Mayfield during my travels and suggested that we go there for brunch to fuel up before a walk to Poolbeg Lighthouse, not far from Terenure. The courtyard was full of young and beautiful people, and we were ready to join them, but there were no available tables. We ended up inside in the quirky dining room, which we appreciated as it was much cooler than the sunbaked outdoors. Barbara ordered a poached pear salad with crispy leaves, bacon, grapes, and a Cashel blue dressing, which she found delicious. We ended up swapping dishes at half time, and she enjoyed one of my perfectly cooked eggs benedict. She even took her dish back after finishing mine to clean the plate. We also checked out the dinner menu, which looked really interesting, so we plan on returning in the next few weeks. The total came to €20 for 2 brunches, 2 homemade lemonades, and 1 coffee. A great deal.
I came across this cafe tucked away in a courtyard behind a bakery. The interior design and decor are beautiful, and the combination of delicious food, friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere make it a must-visit if you are in the area.
My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for lunch last Saturday after hearing great things about it, and I must say it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and the desserts looked amazing (I'll definitely be back to try them). There was a wide variety of options to choose from, all at reasonable prices. I chose the smoked salmon bagel and apple and peppermint tea, which was excellent. My boyfriend opted for the goats cheese ciabatta with beetroot, a glass of red wine, and coffee. The presentation was beautiful, and the portion sizes were generous. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of a hidden gem that offers great value and unique decor. The atmosphere was relaxed and it's a convenient local find rather than always heading into town.
