La Guinguette - Dijon

This restaurant was only a short walk from where we’re staying and after reading other reviews felt we should dine here. Delighted we made that decision. It’s a small space with a quirky, fun decor. The owner does it all, cooks, serves, greets and seats diners. My French is abysmal and his English isn’t great but we communicated and he has a translated menu available. The meal was wonderful and so big!! We both opted for the steak and absolutely loved it. Done with a cheese based sauce and served with a mountain of fried potatoes and fresh green salad. There was a small blackboard wine list and we enjoyed a randomly chosen red from Beaune. An experience of rustic French cuisine I absolutely recommend.

Really enjoyed this very lovely meal cooked perfectly. Entrecôte. With potato, salad, delicious cheese sauce and bread. Served with wine. Perfect meal and talked with the owner for a long time as it was early and not busy. Lovely man who was very interested in us an Australian couple.

On a Monday evening with limited options it was recommended we go to La Guinguette. Truly a one man show; Laurent does it all. The steak and salad we shared were huge portions, there were leftovers and tasty. Truly a spot for locals, back ally in Dijon. Laurent does not speak English and menu is all in French. No chicken or fish believe it is beef only. Carnivores with large appetites go here. 50 euros including a bottle of wine....and full to the hills a bargain. Decor speaks for itself.

I'm a student in my twenties so I can eat, but I could barely finish half of the portion I got. Luckily the owner gave a box to take it away. Now I'll have my dinner as well. Complimentary salad and digestive and even a lollipop as a gift what else could I ask for? (The service will be slow: the owner, the cook and the waiter is the same person!

Small place, very unique, almost in the center, but not in the crowded area. Good food. really very tasty, large portions. doggy bag for unfinished dishes. And it's very comfortable. I didn't have to cook for the next two days.
