Josie's - Decatur

The restaurant has a charming ambiance, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Out of the four of us dining there, none were impressed. The spaghetti sauce was dry, and the noodles were undercooked—not al dente at all. The falafel sandwich was served on pita bread that was so hard it felt like we could use it as a plate. The salad with grilled chicken was quite dull, and the sandwich and fries were just lukewarm. I tried one of their cocktails, but it tasted like watered-down Kool-Aid—I couldn't even tell if there was any alcohol in it. To top it off, we were bothered by gnats throughout our meal, which makes me question the cleanliness of the establishment. I typically don’t write reviews like this, but all four of us left feeling unsatisfied and have continued to discuss how unpleasant our experience was.

As for the atmosphere, it was far from pleasant. I noticed staff members vaping in the kitchen while preparing food without gloves. The noise level was overwhelming, primarily due to the staff playing loud, explicit rap music, making for an uncomfortable dining experience, especially since we were the only customers there. The kitchen's radio was actually louder than the music in the dining area. It seemed like there was a lack of management, as I also saw employees hanging out front smoking. I'm really disappointed, especially since this restaurant shares ownership with Shrimp McGee's, which I've enjoyed in the past. My partner and I were looking forward to a nice date night in Decatur, but if it were possible, I would give this place zero stars. I just hope we don't end up with food poisoning from the fish tacos. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all.

The food is absolutely delicious! My husband and I have been craving it ever since our first visit. The staff is just as wonderful as the food. The bartender is incredibly kind, and my daughters adored her, even the shy one! Food: 5/5

You can't beat coming here for falafels, wine, and people-watching from the stools at the bar up front. The service can be slow, but for date nights I've never minded that and the quality of the food and sweet waitstaff make it worthwhile. Fantastic paella!Food: 5/5

Avoid brunch. They are inefficient and the food is mediocre at best. It took 75 minutes to get three dishes that looked like they could have been made in 5 mins. The BLT comes with no sauce, bread was far over toasted. The breakfast pizza is a regular pizza with a fried egg on top, not even part of it. You could make a better one at home in no time. The breakfast bowl is a few potato’s, cheese, meat, and once again an egg or two thrown on top. The menu is misleading, the service was terrible, and the kitchen clearly has work to do. We boxed our food immediately and left. It’s unfortunate because during dinner this is normally a solid place. Save your money and time and venture across the street.
