Vietnamese Saigon Star - DARWIN CITY

I've tried a lot of pho and in Adelaide we have some great Vietnamese food. Tonight I tried my 2 favourite dishes: Beef Pho and vermicelli with fried beef. They were fantastic and I have to say one of the best broths I have ever had. 1 for family friendly, they made us feel welcome with our 2 little toddlers. A

Very disappointed with this restaurant, reviews we read were excellent but on arriving at said restaurant were told the chef was too busy to prepare two dishes we wanted to order and the third was not available. It was a Saturday night but not very busy. Many empty tables and early in the evening. Not impressed and would not recommend

Not on the menu but Chef obliged anyway by producing a very tasty veg combo omelette. Willing to go the extra mile to please a customer. The fresh mushrooms included helped produce a well balanced result. This dish could easily become a regular favorite.

I ate a lovely Gluten Free lunch here on my last day in Darwin. The owners are very well conversant of the gluten free requirements and are also friendly. I was asked my preferences and I received a delicious meal of steamed rice and a dish of good sized prawns, mixed vegies with a tasty sauce with a little chilli, fish sauce, ginger and it was all well balanced. Just be aware that all food in Darwin is far more expensive than 'down south'. It's not a fancy place but has plenty of tables and is just around the corner from where I stayed.

Not the best pho, nice soup, but meat not flash, too much fat and gristle. We differed in our bill calculation - I think that they may have 'rounded it up'. All round, a bit disappointed after glowing reports in a Darwin 'Taste' magazine.
