Similar to other recent reviews we found the service really poor and restaurant grubby. The tables are sticky. The sushimi platter comes in a dirty bowl and the pieces of sushimi are really thin and one had a bone in it. The price felt like a big rip off for what you get. The menu has changed quite a bit, the great salads have been replaced with oilier choices. Worst of all they had run out of a main we ordered and they neglected to tell us and let us sit there waiting for it for 30mins and only told us when we asked. They also left the item on the bill. Those who enjoyed the little restaurant on Kirketon will be very disappointed.
This cozy bistro has a lovely Japanese ambience and a pleasing menu. The sashimi, gyoza, rainbow roll, and crunchy mixed salad were excellent. The quality of the raw fish spoke for itself. The service was exceptionally good a real feat in this leanly staffed venue and the prices were reasonable. The set up is casual and welcoming the better to showcase the food.
Just crave Japanese food so without any expectations we came to this restaurant which has really reviews on google and I wish I can give MORE THAN 5 STARS because the food and the value is just so good especially if you come during lunch like us. We got the chicken karaage and tempura gosens and both are so delicious, really good balance and the ambience is really comfortable, check my google reviews! The photos here are from my second visit, highlights are the soy sauce and miso cod. Yes, the freaking SOY SAUCE, so damn goooood!
New owner, new spot. Unfortunately my favourite local Japanese restaurant that had a lovely feel to it with wonderful food and good service has been replaced by a travesty under the same name. The staff are clueless and disinterested and unhelpful. The place is grubby, the food came out in any order (incorrect) and it was very poor. The noise level is incredible as well. I will miss the real Yachiyo.
This is the first time I've ever been compelled to write a review. We were so disappointed because we used to go to this place when it was around the corner for many years, which had a great atmosphere and good food. I can only assume that it is under new management. The food was oily with heavy sauces or mayo on everything, the only dish you can't normally get wrong is a sashimi platter but it was served in an enormous salad bowl with leaves, which wasn't even clean!! The sashimi itself was fine but the other dishes were small and poorly executed. But the worse thing is the the place just seems unkept. Our tables were sticky, the place lacked any atmosphere, the kitchen didn't look great, and the toilet area was gross. In fact, the traditional Japanese curtain you walk through to get to the bathroom was soiled and filthy. This place is the opposite of what a good, simple, elegant, clean neighbourhood restaurant should be. Don't bother!
