Recently renovated inside this is a nice place to enjoy a couple of drinks before you kick on somewhere else. A mix of old school and craft beers available by the schooner and pint.
Super good service, casual pub burgers for a decent price that hit the mark. Poutine was super yummy. Vegan mushroom burger on the menu.
I visited the 'Willy' with some friends for a casual lunch in December 2016. I used to work up the road from Hotel William many years ago and for a long time it was a local lunchtime haunt for us. Since then it has undergone a big makeover and the changes are positive, however it's still nothing flash when you compare it against other hipster pubs and burger joints (like Chur in Surry Hills). We picked the Willy because I'm big on burgers these days and I was promised the Willy could deliver the goods... and they came so close to doing so, just falling short of the mark.Food: 7.5/10Their house-made 'special' sauce, which tastes exactly like Big Mac sauce, is admittedly amazing. The buns are top notch and everything tasted fresh. The patty was very moist and packed with flavour. However, the burgers are too small. They need to be 1/3 bigger to compete in today's market, especially for the price they charge. Without any fries, I was still hungry after the burger. Also, the menu was lacking fire. I like a bit of spice and would have loved to see a hot one on the menu with jalapenos and chilli, but it wasn't to be. The menu is pretty limited in my book and the burgers on offer seemed very plain to me. When it comes to hipster burgers, I like to see a bit of creativity and experimentation (at the very least there should be some crazy special of the week)... at the Willy they play it way too safe, with traditional
Pinball machines, craft beer and burgers that will make both your eyes and mouth water! Located on the corner of William street and opposite the Australian Museum. This space has graffiti splashed over the walls and a very open bar section to grab brew and an American style burger. The selection at lunch is great. I can personally recommend the Mack Rib burger - beautifully cooked pork slathered with American smokey BBQ sauce with fresh cucumber. Throw on a side of crispy fries with a tangy seasoning and you will want to kick back tune out the rest of the day sipping a beer and listening to the fresh beats. Price is great for the flavour and meal. They also do sweet dinner specials throughout the week and I am keen to get there for the wings on a Monday night.
