I say it's great!Because we only wanted to see the film that was showing early, before the restaurant was officially open, we climbed to the top floor and found a comfortable mattress and pillows to lounge upon. We enjoyed the film, AND having the entire room to ourselves! And then there was the buffet Indian food in the restaurant - all very good.I'd been here some 15 years ago and was a little surprised the place still existed as it seemed a holdout from another era. But returning was a treat I got to share with my spouse, who'd never been.....The place has gotten upscale in decor and presentation, and the price for admission has climbed accordingly.
This place had been on my bucket list for a while but I was expecting a " cheap and greasy " Buffet , where the dishes have seen better days and are mostly deep fried . So I had never come round to visiting Govindas...i am glad I finally did ! The sleek atmosphere gave much more character to the restaurant than I expected , and the food was so fresh and tasty that I probably ate " more" that I can eat ;) will be back for sure !
Great vegetarian buffet plus a movie. The restaurant is clean and there was plenty of fresh vegetarian food, the upstairs cinema was comfortable and all in all it was a lovely evening to sit on the outside deck and enjoy a movie without breaking the bank. We walked fro the Art Gallery (its just over 1 km) and then walked the 500 to Oxford Street to catch a bus back into the CBD. Easy to find with Google maps.
I was pleasantly surprised that I had enjoyed the Indian style vegan buffet. Personally I was not a fan of Indian food. They offered a good selection of healthy salads with quinoa, kale and leafy greens. The food was not too spicy or hot and I found it to be quite tasty. The movie room was very cosy and you can really relaxed and enjoyed the movie.
Arriving at Govinda's we didn't know what to expect, not being vegetarian, but adventurous non the less we entered. After climbing a few stairs we were met and guided to our table and asked if this was our 1st time. Acknowledging that it was we were given all the info needed for the evening which addressed our concerns. The venue is lovely, soft lighting, subtle decor, well layed out and tidy. It is a buffet style restaurant with table service for the drinks (no alcohol) and desserts. The buffet is great. The variety and taste of the food was excellent and we didn't miss not having any meat as a result. Having enjoyed a lovely meal, being fully satiated we went upstairs to the movie room. This too was a pleasant surprise as the room was decked out with loungers and pillows to recline on. Whilst the movie was average this wasn't the fault of the venue which exceeded our expectation and we had a great night out.
