La Chenaie - Croutelle

Well out of the way, but certainly worth seeking out. Lovely rural location, with a nice garden to look out on; chickens wandering freely. Service charming but rather slow. If you like fast food/service stay away. If you want instead a really pleasant experience, in...lovely surroundings, I can recommend it thoroughly. We opted for the Menu du Marche, which proved excellent value at €29. Generous piece of foie gras with the entree. Cheese course was chevre.. Not a lover of goat's cheese, but this was therefore unexpectedly very nice indeed. Poached pear dessert was beautifully presented and copious. Can recommend the house aperitif, however the wine list was rather expensive. The lowest price was €24 for a bottle of Haut Poitou rose from Villemont, which we have been served elsewhere at €12-€16. Frankly I cannot personally justify a bottle of wine at €24 minimum, to accompany a 4 course meal at €29. I'd rather have a third meal to share between us. The meal itself however was excellent value, so perhaps one should take that into consideration.

Very nice setting, good food, service a little long

A very nice discovery! Absolutely remarkable cuisine, right down to the appetizers. Unrivaled value for money: menu at €23 !!! salmon carpaccio to die for! , cod steak with spices yum! and Grand Marnier soufflé grandiose! . Smiling and attentive service as a bonus. Superb park around the restaurant, pretty tables... I didn't know about it but I will come back with great pleasure!
