Genoa Bay Cafe - Crofton Canada

I was initially reluctant to write a review because I don’t want my favorite spot to get too crowded. However, I have to say, this restaurant is fantastic! It's a hidden gem located in one of the most beautiful bays in the Cowichan/Duncan area. The food and service are outstanding. Though the menu isn’t overly extensive, each dish is prepared and presented beautifully! We've been served by various staff members, and each one has provided professional service, balanced with friendly conversation and plenty of smiles and good humor! Genoa Bay Cafe is truly exceptional!

I only spent a brief time on the patio enjoying a glass of wine between their lunch and dinner services. As a solo female traveler (you know what I mean), I felt completely at ease thanks to my server, Diana. I visited between 4 and 5 PM, which is when the kitchen is closed, so the atmosphere was relaxed and I could enjoy the patio in peace. I savored the view, had a wonderful conversation with Diana, and honestly, it was a delightful experience. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

We began our meal with drinks and coconut prawns, which were delightful. We then shared a snapper burger and fries, accompanied by a cup of what I can confidently say is the best seafood chowder I've ever had—it was simply amazing! For dessert, I strongly recommend the carrot cake; it was moist with a flaky texture and creamy frosting, topped with maple whipped cream. The staff was attentive, and the restaurant was impeccably clean. This place is definitely a must-visit! Vegetarian options are available, including a falafel wrap, rice bowl, and salads.

We ordered the calamari, which has always been a favorite of ours, and it did not disappoint – it was delicious as usual. However, when the fish and chips arrived, it was incredibly disappointing. They were drenched in grease, and both the fries and fish were overcooked. I picked off the dark batter to find the tiniest piece of cod I’d ever seen. Honestly, we should have sent it all back. Our waiter did seem to notice that the food was subpar when he collected our plates, but he didn’t even ask how our meals were. We have always chosen this café to celebrate special occasions, but after our previous unsatisfactory experience, we’ve decided that we won’t be returning.

I enjoyed a wonderful dinner! The food was absolutely delightful, the staff was entertaining, and all in all, it was a delightful evening.
