Drove from Buckden to visit this pub based on reviews and the menu. It’s a trek down mostly single track roads, through some tiny villages, past lots of other pubs, but it is well worth it. There are two things a pub has to do to be a success, be a top notch boozer and also turn out great food, and this one does just that! The beer is great, the atmosphere is friendly and very local, and the food is absolutely top notch. The staff all seem happy, and everyone seems very proud of the food. Cottage pie (meat from on site/ next farm) Steak and ale pie Children’s sausage and chips All of it, brilliant! We also left our daughter’s wellies under the table and called back the next day for them, staff were great when we called about it. Great pub, well worth the trip, thanks!
The pub is fantastic. We had Sunday lunch again and it’s the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. The staff are so welcoming and service second to none. A fantastic place to eat and stay, beer is pretty good too!
I discovered this glorious little pub a couple of days ago, but didn 't have time to eat. Not sure why, but I don 't think I 'd ever been here before. Pretty remote, but such a lovely place: very friendly staff, great, creative menu and excellent ales. All wrapped up in gorgeous Littondale. I had to go for their award winning pie: Littondale Lamb Pie with Slow Braised Lamb Steak Topped with a Honey Minted Lamb Cutlet Baked inside and I chose it to be served with Triple cooked beef dripping chips and mushy peas. You could tell you were in Yorkshire as it came with an extra jug of gravy! This was really delicious: the pie was a triumph: succulent lamb steak in a rich gravy with a whole lamb cutlet! Beautifully tender. The chips were perfection: very crispy on the outside and beautifully fluffy inside. I chose their own brewed X Mild to accompany my excellent meal. Then I had a superb drive back to Horton, as the sun was setting behind Pen y ghent. Absolutely perfect!
