There was a sign in front that said "Best in the Bay" so we thought we would put it to the test. We were not disappointed. The coffee was delicious. I had the corn beef hash and my husband had the french toast combo. Both were very generous portions and very delicious. Our kids came later in the day to visit us at the hotel and we decided to go back there for lunch. The fish tacos and chicken quesadillas were amazing. What makes the food so good is not only the cook's skills, but also the locally sourced ingredients which require no preservatives. We will definitely be back when we visit Cow Bay again.
I was all set to go to Get Phil'd Up and the hotel front desk person suggested the hotel (of course) or two other places. To quote her, "My teen and husband leave there hungry." She was wrong. I had my breakfast tacos, coffee, and took my leftovers home. The hubster had corned beef hash and also had leftovers. We sat outside in the patio, but we could have sat inside up near the kitchen or outside closer to the water. The service was great and the food was perfect. We had to wait some, but on a busy weekend morning that wasn't too surprising. Check them out!
We had ended up staying in a hotel nearby and were looking for a cup of coffee in the morning. We ended with great coffee and a wonderful breakfast.
Cowichan Bay is a quaint little place to explore. When we stopped in at a bakery we asked where to get a good brunch and Get Phil'd Up was recommended for being good food and locally sourced food. It is a small eating place with a few tables in a covered front porch type of area with a small kitchen. The staff seemed a bit weary but were helpful. I am always on the look-out for great corned beef hash and gave theirs a try. It was simple, clean flavours and really very good: rough mashed potatoes with onions and shredded corn beef along with a lovely thick slice of a beefsteak tomato and a slice of pineapple. It was very much good comfort food. My cup of coffee, an Americano was a bit bitter but otherwise I would recommend this as a good place to stop and try local food.
We have visited a couple times. The decor is basic, the owner is friendly and the coffee is good. We will go back.
