Had to fight kids to get a chance to eat some. Order shrimp and grits. Quality ingredients and it was delicious. Huge portion of grits but only 5 shrimp. For $25.99, I expected many more shrimp. Wife had fried mix, which was fried shrimp, fried scallops, and fried clams. I tried the scallops and clams and was pleasantly surprised. Tender and flavorful. Kids had hot dog and chicken tenders. No complaints from kids. Fries were good and sweet potato fries were top notch.
Don't let its looks fool you: Salt Water Grill is the real deal in Duck! Tucked away in a small shopping center and bearing an unassuming storefront sign, Salt Water Grill is easy to miss. On the inside, SWG has SWAG. Dawggg Our server was attentive and tremendously quick witted. Spongebob we jokingly assigned him this sobriquet and it stuck for the remainder of the night was everywhere: refilling water, cracking jokes, and giving his take on the food and drink. We ordered the seafood pasta, shrimp n' grits, and the burger. My seafood pasta had shrimp, crab, clams, and rotini in a sauce that was reminiscent of Old Bay and cajun seasoning, with less of a kick. Not only was it the tastiest meal I can remember eating in weeks, but it was also the most filling meal I've had in weeks. My bites from the other meals confirmed to me that this place knows how to do food! The drinks (mostly cocktails and wines) were good, but the star of the show is definitely the food and the service! Highly recommended for the seafood pasta, shrimp n' grits, or catch of the day!
If you're in the strip mall near Food Lion, stop by Salt Water Grill. This place is very unsuspecting. It looks like it would be eligible for Restaurant Takeover but don't walk past it. They have AMAZING food. I went with a group of eleven and we were accommodated very nicely. We met the sous chef, Jack, who came out and greeted us. Our servers gave us the inside scoop on a local ice creamery down the road. Here are the top faves: Crab stuffed lobster Shrimp and grits Steamed mussels
Came here on a night that no other restaurants could seat our family of over 10. We were a little weary because of the store-front but it is true that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Our server was quick and nice. Strongly recommend the seafood pasta, it was a table favorite. Many got burgers/sandwiches and reported they were alright. The drink selection was very nice and the bartender was fast. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour and a half, which is rare for our large party.
We wanted to drive up the north end of the Outer Banks on this trip, to Duck and Corolla. We picked out Crafty Cow for lunch but after 20 minutes of trying to locate it (not easy to find), we learned it was closed for the season. It is in a kind of mall, so we walked around and found Salt Water Grill. Your dining choices are at risk, later in the season. We learned that Salt Water Grill was closing the next day also. I don't really think it influenced our experience, though since all we wanted was a burger. I rarely notice décor, but the place is unnecessarily dark. It is just not what you associate with a beach place. It is not inviting. We had an OK burger. It was a preformed patty, probably 1/3 lb. It had a lot of char-grill flavor and was salted well. I had cheese, lettuce and tomato. The sweet potato fries were normal, Ms T always likes them. The slaw was naked. It may have had some oil on it. This was strange. Three stars is generous for our experience, but I know we did not really test the menu very well and in season, for a dinner it is probably fine. The burger just seemed institutional.
