There is a limited menu that covers most of the basics and we enjoyed a lasagne and a Haloumi burger. Freshly cut chips too!. Not going to set the culinary world alight but at that price it was very enjoyable and worth every penny. Friendly and prompt service too, and a welcome wood burning stove to keep us warm.
A treat from a dear friend brought me and her littluns to this lovely spot for a thoroughly enjoyable evening : On the surface the place gave little away so I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with a warm and cosy pub, full of local happy faces quietly enjoying a midweek tipple.. Having recently changed hands, the new owners were wonderfully cheery and out to accommodate our every need.. We were particularly impressed by their promise of a hearty Vegan dinner (not a common sight in little old St Just that’s for sure . The sweet landlady D instantly took to us and the kiddies and kindly offered to hold the baby whilst ensuring the 3 year old had his hands full of colouring pens and paper. And before we knew it there was a table full of colourful food and in front of our faces too! The more than Yummy Vegan Squash Stew was an obvious choice for my plant eating preferences and went down wonderfully with a pint of their local ‘Proper Job’ ale : My fish eating friends opted for the Scampi and skin on chips which I can only assume went down a treat judging by the smiles on their faces! Particular compliments went out to their home made vegan friendly tartare sauce : My friend was so pleased with our meals that she had kindly ordered us all dessert, which finished off the evening perfectly.. Especially since it was all served with a juicy helping of Vegan ice cream : A fabulous local setting filled with happy humans and some warm, tasty grub made for a splendid midweek dinner : A firm favourite for our next outing in St Just!
Visited had the vegetarian Sunday roast amazing! Roast potatoes Yorkshire puddings were delicious a good choice of well cooked colourful veg. Huge portions really friendly welcoming landlady staff! Definitely the best vegetarian roast we’ve had since moving to Cornwall 2 years ago!
We ate at the Wellington a few nights ago, and it ticked all our boxes. Having only just arrived after a long drive we were starving and itching for a pint. So glad we popped in the Wellington. Someone is keeping the cellar absolutely tip top because we went between all the ales and they were A1. I chose a steak and ale pie, the Mrs chose a halloumi burger. It was good, honest, decent stuff. Nothing crazy or fancy, just well cooked and we wolfed it down. The girl running the show at the time was Lauren, who is the difference between an average night and a good one. I've often considered running a food-based pub over the years, and she is exactly who I would want working there. Needs a pay rise if you ask me, because you could easily have some boring sod behind that bar who would make a visit dull. Instead she accomodated us completely, and told us everywhere we needed to visit, and recommended pubs, and just made us feel like it was our local. Also, a pint of Proper Job in there is second to none.
Great Sunday roast. All plated up fresh veg great cauliflower cheese. Lovely fresh Yorkshire pud. Lovely to see Lauren back and staff very friendly.
