I've given you 5 stars as you don't deserve to have your rating affected by this. However, I feel that a pub that doesn't allow dogs should have no dogs in it.
Rude abrupt bar staff shouted across bar you can't bring a dog in here. Shame they couldn't approach you and explain, only came in as friend said always seems to have a dog in there, UNSURE HOW TO REPLY SO.. I EXPLAINED TO THE STAFF HE WAS A SUPPORT DOG BUT THEY JUST SPOKE OVER ME (LOOKING AT OTHER REVIEWS THIS SEEMS COMMON PRACTICE BY STAFF) I DID THINK MAYBE DOGS AREN'T ALLOWED DUE TO THE FACT THERE WAS A MUCH LARGER DOG LAYING ON SOFA AND NOT AS YOU SERVE FOOD BECUASE IF SO THEN YOUR OWN DOG WOULDN'T BE WHERE FOOD IS SERVED. WOW.. WALKED BY YESTERDAY AND NOTICED STAFF CUTTING TOENAILS IN THE BAR AREA...
Then there was a dog fight at the bar and after the same XL bully dogs were allowed to run free around the pub, including behind the bar. Barman rude and said that our over 14 year old children couldn’t play pool even thought the sign said no under 14’s. Definitely the worst pub I’ve been in for a while.
On the way back to my hotel in Penzance, after spending the day going to St Michael’s Mount, I had checked the internet for the best pubs in Penzance and saw several good ratings for The Star Inn, so thought I’d check it out and maybe stay for dinner. The fellow at the bar was short and curt and they only had one real ale on pump his only description was ‘citrusy’. Finished the drink then left. With the reviews that I saw I was expecting a friendly welcome as others here seem to have indicated more recently, that’s obviously not the way they work now.
Really friendly pub in the heart of town, first class local ales, ciders and fantastic food. live Cornish music on Saturdays, pool, and always as someting going on. Well worth a visit
