The staff is always friendly and they know the menu well (no longer very often in most restaurants). The cakes are the best and the journey alone worth it! It's one of our favorite restaurants.
Always love this place, but today ran into our first issue here. I let the waitress know there was something very wrong with the coke slaw, thinking it was rotten. She didn't offer anything. So the meal we paid for was lacking it's side. Not the end of the world but certainly disappointing. I highly recommend the fish and chips regardless.
However, one issue I've encountered is that they often run low on certain items. On our last visit, they were out of bananas for the strawberry banana pancakes, which was frustrating because that was the main reason for our trip. I'm not a cake lover—actually, I dislike most cakes, except for the European chocolate cake they offer once a year. When I discovered this was the time of year for that cake, I quickly gathered the kids and rushed over to our local Village Inn. To our dismay, although there was an advertisement for the "master of all cakes" on our table, they were out of it. Not only were they sold out, but we were saddened to learn that they wouldn’t be restocking it either. So, we ended up eating our meal, which felt like just an appetizer to the chocolate European pie we were anticipating. Meanwhile, the cake advertisement mocked us from the table. So, to the management at Village Inn, I have some questions: Why do you only offer this amazing cake once a year? Why do you have such a limited supply? And why leave an ad on the table for something you don’t have or plan to offer in the near future? Lastly, how can I find out when this rare and delicious treat will be available again? My parents are getting older, and I can't wait another year. I’d like to reserve one—or maybe even five!
We experienced a lengthy wait for our food on the day we visited, lasting about 45-50 minutes. However, the manager handled the situation well by offering us a complimentary piece of cake. Luckily, we weren't in a rush, but it could have been frustrating if we had been. Overall, the food was delicious, and the coffee exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back.
I wrote this review after my fourth visit, and I'm already looking forward to going back. This is a lovely casual restaurant with a nice variety of menu options. They serve breakfast all day, although I haven't had a chance to try it yet. My dining partner and I enjoyed everything we ordered. We've both reordered some of our previous dishes and noticed a slight inconsistency in the food, but it was still good in both instances. It's a great spot for hearty meals without the extra costs associated with themed atmospheres and added extras. The staff is very friendly, the place is clean, and we will definitely be returning.
