Captain George's Seafood - Colac

I ordered the whiting, calamari, potato cakes, and chips. The batter was the best I have ever had and the food was fresh. The owner and staff were extremely friendly. I highly recommend stopping by this hidden gem of a restaurant on your way through Colac.

Just when you though the world had gone mad with all this twice and thrice pre cooked and battered fish, along comes The Captain !The flake was like a stick of butter lightly battered mmmmmmm all creamy ! Yes you heard right, battered and cooked on the spot. Thin and crispy batter, light fluffy white fish omg !Along with a serving of old school hand cut chips I'd say ( which looked quite pale BUT I'd say he keeps his oil clean because the taste was amazing )And thinly battered potato cakes.Captain George and Brother George or Cousin George or whoever the helper was I tip my hat to you.This take me back to when I was young. All we need now is arcade games in the corner !Oh wait their is.....

Not a lot to say except these were the best fish and chips I've had in ages. They have other food to buy. You can sit inside or take away to the park opposite. I'll be back.

When you get to Colac at 2pm midweek and you’re hungry, the pickings can be slim. The pub had stopped serving food, one café was only serving coffee and cake but they suggested another – no lunch there either. ‘Let’s see if that fish and chip shop is open’, it was a last resort but a great choice. The chips were fabulous, the oil obviously fresh, the prices great and the staff friendly. So if you’re passing through Colac, try Captain George’s!

Really good fish, crispy batter, excellent potato cakes, chips good if eaten straight away. Cheerful and quick service.
