They have a great selection of everything, from produce to local beer to staples to grab-and-go food. I especially recommend their New England Turkey Cranberry sandwich, it was really yummy (and diary free! . They also carry a local brand of grab-and-go Chinese food called Chow Maine, which offers mostly vegan selections and is also quite good. It 's a close walk from DT Portland (be careful of ice on the hill in the winter though , and there 's also a huge parking lot. I 'll be back!
I feel that Whole Foods quality and selection has gone downhill. There are less products to select from and often there is just one brand and their 365 brand. The discount from Amazon Prime is saving less and less. At check out there is often no one to bag groceries. The produce is still good in quality and selection, but that's about it.
Home delivery: Some positives: I used Whole Foods delivery through the pandemic and am so appreciative that we have that option here. There is an employee in the store, Sky (not sure of correct spelling who is the ecommerce manager who has been so helpful and friendly with any issues I 've had over the past year. The shoppers don 't always get it right, sometimes less so than others, but you can get a hassle-free refund by calling Amazon (not the store . No biggie. On one occasion a driver went rogue and went to the beach and possibly into the ocean (according to the app, and the driver never showed up! with my groceries but other than that, no drama. Big negative: Amazon advertises free home delivery for Prime members if you spend $35 or more. I 've discovered that they mark up many items for home delivery vs in-store, so that is NOT free home delivery if you 're adding a surcharge! However, they call it an in-store discount. Not sure how legal that is but it sure is sneaky. I discovered it this morning. I don 't know how long that 's been happening but I took away a star for that. In-Store: A few weeks ago I went for the first time in over a year now that I 'm fully vaccinated. I encountered two very unhelpful employees, one who was actually rude. I was also shorted $2 with milk bottle returns that I didn 't notice until I got home. For the poor service I at first deducted a star but decided to give them a few more tries in hopes that the old magic will return. They now have self-check-out which is nice. I hope they can improve customer service since that is part of why I shop there. UPDATE 6/2/21 THE MAGIC IS BACK! Moving forward I plan to do a mix of home delivery and in-store shopping. They are still my favorite place to buy my groceries.
Theeir delivery system was not tied in with the ordering. My online order was wrong on several items. When I called the store about making it right, I spoke with a supervisor and then a manager. Neither wanted to have anything to do with me. They told me it was Amazon's problem, not theirs. I offered to bring the items back to the store for a refund which they refused to do. After several minutes, when I was trying to talk to the manager, she hung up on me. It was an example of the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. I used to work retail and I know that customers can be exasperating at times, so I really try to empathize with the person on the other end of the line, but these people obviously didn't give a rats about satisfying me. Not a good experience at all.
Terrible experience shopping during COVID-19. The prime employee shoppers have no etiquette. WF is chasing the at all costs. I have always been a supporter of WF but this consistent experience will alter my plans in the future.
