Each course is described in detail by the wait staff and none were a disappointment. Some of the ingredients sounded strange (sweet cabbage juice on a desert?) but all were exquisite. we chose from the wine list which is reasonably priced and composed of lesser known vineyards, the 2006 Ada River Shiraz went perfectly with the Waygu beef. You can choose to have wines matched with each course which is a further $60. I've eaten at Vue D Monde and Loame, the quality here is similar but at a much lower price ($80). Ambiance is classic Bowls Club.
Been twice now. Both Saturday nights. First time place was half full but since the media reports it's chockers. Booked out till Feb.Basic fit-out (it is a bowls club after all). Plenty of space between tables. Staff are excellent. Down to earth and very friendly.Food is the reason for coming. Degustation on Saturdays (Fridays as well from Nov 1). Five courses for $50. Ripper value.Small serves but spaced over a few hours it is enough. The thought, preparation, skill and attention to detail is unbelievable. How imaginative are the combinations. The quality of the produce shines through.Wine list is typical club fare.Desperately want to try mid week a la carte but have to wait for a cancellation now!
My two friends and I decided to go to Clayton Bowls for lunch, we were a bit worried hardly anyone there. We were told by Nick the chef rang in ill and not everything is on the Menu. We didn't have to worry, the chap Nick that served us went out of his way and had a big smile on his face the whole time. Our lunch was like a 5 star restaurant we couldn't complain about anything. You just don't know, we are so glad we stayed and will be back. Thanks Nick
Had our 5th Xmas Function at the Bowls club last night, booked months in advance. Opted for barefoot bowls and the top of the range BBQ. Firstly our dining tables were set up outside in 38 degree heat (Apparently inside was fully booked) We ordered Nachos whilst playing bowls and that was an added extra, Then payed $50 per head for a cold steak sandwich and sausages on bread. Prawns were forgotten till I asked where they were, they gave their apology and we got 2x small plates of prawns on skewers (approximately 1 prawn per person) I was so imbarrassed in front of my collegues I don't know how to face them next week. Staff are very friendly. But the CEO has no idea what she'd doing.
I simply cannot fault this place at all. The food was absolutely delicious and for the first time, we were able to enjoy an excellent degustation menu with wine matching at an affordable price, and in an unpretentious environment. To be honest, I've never done wine matching before usually due to the cost, but since price is not really an issue here, wine matching is a must do in my opinion.I'm already looking for excuses for my next visit!
