Sails Restaurant - Clarence

Had a little celebration for a birthday with some friends on a Friday night. I found that the service was terrific and the food even better. Everyone one had a great meal, be it steaks, chicken or fish. The Pork steak was just so tender and the squid rings also. The biggest negative is parking as this area is becoming a bit of a eating hub, but if you have parking karma (good thoughts) then you may not have to walk to far.

It should be fantastic with the beautiful location, but the restaurant was like coles cafe. NO ambiance, and one of the wost meals ( and presentation) I have had. The coffee after waiting over 15 mins to get and 2 requests was SO cold and weak as weak that I could not drink it, just paid and left, will Never return.

Ok....where to start . Apologies in advance if i offend anyone but the standard of our food is a measure of our society. This was bot good overall.Straight up review without the gloss and sheen Table for 5 , arrived on time, promptly seatedOrdered drinks...good standard of house wine . We declined a bottle as were all drivingGrandfather ordered a lite , drank it then told it was a full strength beer. Not a good mistake from bar staff. Poor communication suspected 5/10The garlic bread was good . Hot , tasty 8/10Mains arrived. We ordered steaks and schnitzelsHigh quality steak. I ordered rare it arrived rare as requestedThe medium rare arrived medium, the medium rares arrived medium rare. The schnitzel was pretty average(from a box, the crumbs were yellow) the pepper sauce was disgraceful. Worst sauce ive ever had. Pure blonde in appearance , suggestion of pepper, tasteless, we just looked at each other and thought 'seriously'?Tomatos and onion rings were all cooked poorly . Chips were goodSalads were a blast from the past, sliced cheese , iceberg, tinned beetroot etc. It actually tasted good. I miss that type of 70s Aussie pub food from time to time. But heh we are in what is basically a city hotel and had slightly higher expectations. But i digress.Service was amazing. The girls on the floor worked their tails off and accomplished much whilst we dined. Polite, interpersonal, clever. Good choice of staffI gave my steak a 9 , everyone else said 5/10Schnitzel lady said 3/10Great venue, a bit tired looking. Needs modernising. What can i say. Paid the bill and thought meh. I wont be backWith prices as a group similar to recent salamanca experiences...the kitchen needs an injection of talent ...which costs money to attract a top chef and deliver what we were paying for .Turn it up because the verdict as a group was...the owners are just taking the **** out of the patrons with the food. Something is missing. Kitchen staff may have been down in numbers...not sure as we were there for a mini celebration and rather graciously declined to ask of the staff.Lord have mercy on the future success of this operation. Winter and low dining numbers are fast approaching. Recommended to renovate itInstall a gun chef pronto. Keep your front of house team at all costs...theyre not fair weather staff but rather hard working and conscientious typesOverall. 5/10....boring

Met a friend for catch up with lunch. Staff were delightful and did not rush us as we spent more time talking than reading the menu!! Offered drinks promptly. Menu was average and we ordered the salmon and scallops. What a delight!! The salmon was HUGE and served with seasonal vegetables. The scallops were a generous serve served with fries and salad. Both meals were enjoyed leaving no room for dessert.I would recommend for a casual lunch by the river edge
