Went to Sigiri Sri Lankan restaurant in Manhattan, NY, today. All the food was very flavorful. The lamprais was a mix of chicken, fish cutlet, egg,...
I almost couldn't find Sigiri while I was staring directly at it. It's that small, and is half a floor up, next to a few other restaurants that are more...
I am Sri Lankan galle forte specifically. The food here is world class. Extremely authentic and high quality. Sri Lankan food is a little bit complicated to figure out what goes with what. You can easily end up with a combination that is pancakes and lasagna...both independently great but don't go together. If this is your intro to Sri Lankan food I would start with chicken Kothu and beef Gotha. Lamprais is also great in isolation. All the starches are great hoppers, pol roti, pittu, strings. But make sure you get gravy to go with. Fish curry and black chicken are my favorites.
Utterly spicy. Dry. Not very flavorful beyond burning hot spice. Probably a shop for specialist of the genre.
