Instead, we ended up with our first dinner in months over some fries and jalapeno poppers that I would have made at home.
When they come for drinks, then it's okay, but we came for a work dinner and found the menu limited and eating inspiring. the vegan nachos had not dipped much and came half warm. people who had the burgers were not so impressed and the maisbrot was sick sweet. the only good were the chips. very loud through the concrete floors and sitting were hard and uncomfortable. we decided we would never come back!
I came over a recommendation for this venue from an online vegan group. to my surprise have bad shepherd a great selection of vegan meals and american bbq. we are a lover of bbq, need simple milk-free options and my man loves craft beer, so it was a perfect fit for us. I was initially a little skeptical, because they had child-friendly offers, but actually attracted them families; being a brewery? we went on a Saturday evening (with a booking) to an early evening meal and we immediately knew we were welcome. we saw several high chairs and children's cars. during our visit there we have experienced 4 different groups with babies or small children. there is no surprise here, given their pleasant and tasty eating. also the friendly attitude of the owners is reflected with their personal. Once they sit, there is no table service so they have to pay and order cash. we have nothing to do with it, because in that they can order the moment they are ready. we had looked at the menu before and knew that we included after their “3 meat bbq combo”, the 200g pulled gay. 200g pulled chicken, 200g cut brisket, maisbrot plus a choice of 2 sides. we ordered french and bier bacon mac cheese as our sides. we had a piece with the blocks with my son and he really enjoyed building on the table while waiting for our meal. he does not have a lot of entertainment in the restaurant, so that we bring our own. that was a welcome change for us. eating was fast and the presentation is great! the children immediately looked at the food and were thrilled to dig. my son loved the maisbrot, chips and Mac cheese. my daughter loved the pulled gay and chips! the whole food was delicious and the pulled pork and Mac cheese were the highlights for me. I wanted to have more details, but the large portion meat was enough to fill us (which is usually recommended for 3-4 people). if they have larger or 3 or 4 adult, I would recommend adding more pages. we definitely want to return and try more from their menu. they have great hours, the young families and a great view of the brewery from the restaurant. my man also wants to try more bier!
I am truly benefiting from boutique brewing being a thing now in Melbourne. I first discovered Bad Shepherd at the East Malvern Food and Wine Festival, loved their Hazelnut Brown, later tried their Pale Ale and loved that even more. This little brewery is run by husband and wife team, Dereck and Diti Hales. It is located in Cheltenham with a busy eatery to help you enjoy the craft brews. Even better, there is a full section of the menu devoted to flavoursome, diner style, vegan fare.
Great atmosphere and fun quiz night.....host was excellent!
