Did not try the Noodle, which many people came here for. Congee is rather plain, the rice with chicken and potato tasted typical HK style cuisine : supertasty. Looked at the Laksa menu, not good value for money, esp. compared to Laksa at Upperroom CBD, which is much much better and cost 30% cheaper. Sunday evening when we came, was packed. Given the location, the price, and the taste, I wonder which dishes attracted so many people. Service is standard HK restaurant: sometimes I found it too efficient, too fast. For a moment, I felt like I was dining at one of the corner restaurant in Tsim Tsa Tsui or in Tung Low Wan.
The food is pretty decent and portion is big but customer service is non-existent, dont expect any kind of good service here.
This is a place hong kongers go to eat, not to fawn over their food. All the classics made really well. Actually the dishes I ordered were the best versions I've had. We had The baked pork chop rice which I destroyed in 30seconds, the stir fry noodles with wontons and brisket (pictured) And Singapore noodles. My pork chops were so lean and tender, I was able to strip it to the bone. The wontons were very plump so I'll be getting wonton soup next time. After suffering that silly hawker foodcourt in Westfield for so long, I'm happy to have another goto place in chatswood. You get what you pay for so don't expect foodcourt **** or lunch specials, reviewers saying this is expensive are the type that would happily pay $30 for a pasta dish (when we all know how simple and cheap pasta is to make) so they're just trying devalue Chinese food as they're used to getting takeaway in a food court. The servers are nice and everything was clean. I hope they can maintain the same standard everyday. The only negative here is it's difficult to find and you have to navigate through a butcher and fruit shop to get here so can be off putting to someone who wants a dining experience. I only happened on this place because of a press article.
Used to go at least once a week. Food's okay, very typical Hong Kong food. However, they up the price and it is on the expensive side for a basement cafe. They still have great oven baked seafood rice, better than any other Hong Kong cafe in Chatswood. If you're shopping in Chatswood Chase, it is located just next door. Bus stop in front of CC. You won't be missing much if you don't go and try it.
We have visited a few times this 'secret eating place, tucked away at the end of a subterranean corridor in the basement of 369 Victoria Ave. It is an absolutely no frill Chinese restaurant with Chinese patrons ' taste and requirements in focus. We were the only non Chinese diners. The food was really good, the portions generous and truly professionally prepared and served (I think by the owner herself). Don 't expect too much friendliness, it is strictly business, matter of fact, but very efficient. We ordered 5 dishes for 4 persons, and the lady who took the order said: no, no, it is too much! Nevertheless, we insisted and we enjoyed an excellent meal. Only one dish: a pork nuckle hotpot wasn 't the best, because the meat had too many small bones more bones than meat! But its taste was very good.Prices are the same as in any other no frill Chinese eatery, but I think the quality of the food is above many. We will be back.
