The Town Mouse - Carlton

Visited this restaurant for the first time after reading many great reviews. We had sea bream ceviche and raw beef entree which were both great. We followed this with the chicken and pork scotch and butter lettuce leaves. The chicken was superb with a great sauce as was the pork fillet. The food leans towards a refreshing simplicity of great quality and flavours which was very enjoyable. Very knowledgable with the wines and we were able to get great assistance choosing the right wine.The only reason for the four out of five was the fact that diners in groups of two have to sit at the bar on a stool. Personally I find this tiring after a while and much prefer a table. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

It is really small with an outside area sometimes open, so highly recommend you book. We were there on a Sunday night and it was full. Loved sitting at the bar. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. Food was great! Vegetables were super delicious. We shared a main and a plate of Brussels sprouts and it was plenty.

Had a great long lunch today that culminated in a job offer! To boot the food was yummy with great options for vegetarians!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally decided to make a Friday night dinner booking and take the husband. At 8.15pm it wasn't too overly busy and we were seated at the bar. The interior is dark, modern and intimate and fairly small but they do reserve seats for people walking in without bookings.The menu is small which is great, not too many decisions to make and they have perfected everything on the menu. 20 mins after ordering we were told there was a glitch and had to re-confirm our order. Sadly we forgot to order the tartare again the second time so didn't get to try that. Started off with the super fresh oysters and duck parfait. To make up for the wait we were offered free glasses of rose. For main we had the dory and black angus flank, both were delicious. The bartender took both our food and drink orders and she recommended wines to pair with our food. For dessert we went for the full cheese board which was a fantastic end to the meal. Will definitely be back!

So happy to have had dinner here. What a terrific surprise it was. We were seated at the bar and I was initially concerned if we would enjoy sitting at the bar eating and it was a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious, delicate, beautifully presented. Great plates for sharing. The service was excellent. The woman working behind the bar was also serving the food and was excellent. Looking forward to going back for more!
