If they order a steak, they will certainly specify how they like it, as there are risks of being overtaken. the eating itself is inconspicuous, but decent, and there is a lot to choose from on the menu. These are also very affordable three and five-course menus. the large and shaded terrace makes it ideal for lunch on a hot sunny day.
After much discussion and then finally insurance from our hotel, we went to le jardin l’ete for our last meal in france. what a mistake. we arrived early to find a charming courtyard setting and a wood fire kohlen for the coming night. unfortunately, despite some distance, the smoke over us drove constantly and we both stunk of it at the end of the night. our waiter was an uninterested, strongly tattooed man who dressed like dirty shorts he wore for a week and old shoes. he was rude, careless and threw the food and the drinks on the table when he approached us. because my travel companion is not a weintrinker, I asked to buy my wine on the glass for the evening. immediately the usual balloon style glasses were removed from the table and I was made possible my wein into the cheapest, smallest thickrimmed glass. I ordered the foisgrass for entree and my companion the tomato and buffalo mozzarella salat. both were good, but nothing special. mains. I went with the steak tartar and my companion the gambas garnelen) and rice court. I expected the tartaric acid to be prepared on the table..the spice, raw etc. and then plated etc., but no, a dirty old candy basket of juicy sauce bottles, some empty, was thrown on the table and I was left on my own devices. the tartaric acid dish was served only with french fries, no salate or vegetables.something that I found an extremely strange combination. the garnel flour was declared reasonable, but only four medium-sized garnels for one main was very bad. my second glass weeping was thrown on the table that it was hard that it ran over all and another waitress observed to blur the chaos. this waiter was horrific. the desert was ordered, the lemon tarte for me and a cappucinno,fraise,menthe concoction for my partner. when they arrived, my companion served a cream brûlée. we felt it was wrong, the waiter insisted that both courts be taken away, despite my correct one. the deserts were returned, mine the same tar as taken away, but this time we had seen a glass of mixed strawberries with. we didn't say anything like this, we just wanted to get out, but my companion said she should've stuck with the brûlée. my tarte was extremely disappointing, the baked was soft and soggy and the lemon filling was missing the stamp they expected. a disappointing end of our time in france and I would never recommend this place to everyone.
On arrival, the setting in an interior garden setting was delightful. The food however was nothing special at all, in fact disappointing. The veal was one of the fattiest cuts I've ever had presented to me, just terrible. And the desert looked and tasted like...something out of a box. Service was poor and continual demands had to made to get things done. Not one of the service staff looked around to see if service was needed anywhere; no eye contact. Not on my return to' list at all. Not recommended.
This is a good place for lunch if walking from the Citadel to the city or vice-versa as it is on the recommended walking path in most maps you'll get. This means the place might be a bit touristy, but it doesn't come across that...way, and the food is good value for money. Staff is friendly and attentive, and good covid-19 measures were in place. All meats are grilled on a wood fired grill, so if you are particularly sensitive to smoke avoid this place. If you are ordering a steak, be sure to clearly indicate how you like it, as it risks to be overcooked. The food itself is unsurprising yet decent, and there is a lot to choose from on the menu. The are also very affordable three- and five-course menus. The vast and shady terrace makes it ideal for lunch on a hot sunny day.
A lovely shaded walled garden. The chef has a massive "bonfire" in a hole in the wall, and grills the steaks on the glowing embers which he rakes out. We had two wonderful steaks there, and would certainly revisit
