I will lead with the core problem that it cost us $76 to bring a side of chips and guacamole, two entrees, and two drinks on cafeteria tablets that will bring them back to the table after their name is called over a microphone. back in boston, $76 is about what I would pay for a nice meal in a medium to a chic restaurant with table service. everything here is about $20-25 a teller and the taste and ambiente just don't just justify these costs. this place reminds me of cheesecake factory in theory and pricing, except for cheesecake factory, with its huge portion sizes and the $25 cost a plate, they also get table service, beautiful ambiente, and eating tastes good. yes, the portions are huge, but I don't want two meals in one that don't taste all that well while I'm on the go. it would help if they could order half portions to reduce food waste in cases where they can not bring the rest home. Nevertheless, $12.50 is more than I would have paid for half of the butternut quash ravioli I got. it looked and tasted like prepacked ravioli. I ordered it with a basilikum, garlic and olive oil sauce, and it didn't have much taste at all. it would have really used some salt and was altogether edible, but very embarrassing. I can deal with undersalted foods, but to be billed at this price-point and on the menu as “home-specificity”, the butternut-queash ravioli was really disappointing and an expensive mistake. my partner had a lot of luck with his enchiladas, but they weren't $25 a record good. it seems like a vegetarian restaurant, one of the things they rely on to make the taste good, is milk products, and not necessarily know how to compensate the lack of salt and taste when they are removed. I guess that's good and all for vegetarian, but on this same note I can be a cheese and sour looking at something slap and it tastes good. Why spend so much for it? I regret going here to my only meal in the santa cruz area. it was on this and cafe gratitude and both my partner and I agreed that this was not a good choice after breathing. If the cost were lower, I would not have had such high expectations and would have let a lot of these things slide. this would be a 1-star rating, but happy cow gives an automatic star for being fully vegetarian, so I can't rate this under 2 stars. I hope they improve their vegan cooking and are less dependent on milk for taste. updated by previous review on 2022-03-06
This place was amazing. I was 4 days in capitola with my family (there were 9 of us who are all vegetarian and/or vegan) and I ate there twice. in the first night I had dinner there and the second time we had brunch. the personal and the eating were excellent. tons of options for vegan / vegetarian gf. I have tried many dinge in my two visits including the vegan reuben, tempe terriyaki burger, tofu scramble, pasta, kitcheree, terriyaki rice bowl. each of them was excellent. I would have eaten all my meal here, I would have had something else with every meal
I love dharma and have pulled many people out of the way to meet this place on the road. the menu is kind of huge and the portions are also. I live for the Mega-Burger, it is amazing and it is too big, but every time I think I can end the platelet. I often do and then I am in pain for a dae ambiance is not really the reason to visit, it is a basic place where they order at the theke, their own dishes, much sitting and, it is in a small strip mall arta thing. but if you show up hungry, you will not be abandoned. did I mention the mega burger? there are also other beautiful things on the menu (or so I hear).
Visiting the area this weekend, partially to be close to Dharma’s! I ordered the mega burger, which was veganized w vegan mayo and cheese. Huge portion w soy strips and grilled potatoes on the side. I love that Dharma’s has tons of variety: Mexican, Asian, burgers, shakes, breakfast all day , plus sides from tofu scramble to mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy. Easy online ordering, will probably be back again soon.
