Last Sunday 6 of us went for Lunch to The Hungry Monk It was not too big so getting table for 6 was easy 4of us went for Beef one for Fish and one had Lamb. Service was quick and our Dinners arrived well stacked plenty of veg gravy and roast potatoes..and lovely homemade horse radish sauce plus mint sauce. Desserts were so tempting Apple Crumble pouring Custard/Ice Cream and two had Tiramisu. We finished with Coffee and were just packed full. We would really recommend a visit and coming up to Christmas outside catering will be looked after so having a house party you can get your catering done here.
We where her on Thursday eve and we have been to the bistro many times before. The food was good but its been better. Maybe they had a busy day or chef was off but the chips where not the best. Homemade which is great but half the plate was full of crispy burnt bits that where inedible. Plus it took almost 15 mins for our food order to be taken yet it wasent busy only 2 other tables. When I was there in the summer things where run alot better and more prompt. I hope things improve as it's lovely to see a business succeed in such a small town.
Visited the restaurant recently. Sat down at the table and looked through the menu with my partner deciding what we would like it eat. lunch finished at 4 30pm. we were in the restaurant well before 4 30pm. the waitress whom was serving all alone in but under no pressure avoided taking our order and instead greeted other customers and served them after we had arrived. I then when up to the counter to order something for lunch and it was 4 35 and told me we couldn't get anything from the lunch menu it was too late. I then said we had been sitting waiting well before 4 30pm and you chose to avoid serving us. the waitress didn't have any manners and wasn't very nice. other then that the chef absolutely served us a fabulous lunch but do not hope to return to this restaurant again.
Visited with my husband. What a find. Food freshly cooked and locals eat here too which to me proves the chefs worth. Had the fish, chips and salad and my husband had proper goujons. The following day which was a Saturday we called again and had two freshly baked scones with jam cream and a strawberry on side served by the chef. Keep up the excellent fare. It's an excellent offering for us the visitors.
