O'neills The Point Seafood

Love this place and have returned many times. Always packed in the summer which is a sign they're doing something right but they will always try to get you a table if you're happy to have a drink and wait. The views out to Valentia Island are extraordinary and the pub/restaurant's atmosphere is always happy and buzzy. The owner is a great host and makes you feel welcome and he's really on the ball so even if it's heaving, he'll give you a time estimate for when a table is likely to be free. And he comes and finds you. It's how all busy restaurants should work.

My husband and two children arrived at 5.20pm on Thursday 10th August and whilst there were people already in situ we got a table without difficulty. It was our first time here. We were informed that there was no squid left and lobster was advertised at €32 per lb. I ordered the 'Monkfish Point Special ' at €24.95 and my husband chose the Hot and Cold Seafood Selection at €24.95 which consisted of 2 types of salmon, battered cod and prawn cocktail with 1 boiled potato, potato salad and dressed salad. As squid usually comes with this, he thinks he got extra salmon instead. We ordered a side of cheesy potatoes at €4.50 which were delicious. We received a basket of fresh baguette style bread which had all been devoured in the 40 minutes from when we ordered before our food arrived. We shared all between us. Whilst the Monkfish dish was fabulous, it arrived very hot and I burnt my tongue with the initial taste. I think I would have preferred the variety of the hot and cold platter that my husband chose and would opt for this on my next visit whenever that happens. My husband had 2 Pints of Hop House 13 advertised at €5.50 a pint on the menu but charged €5.70 per pint on the bill. Whilst I had 2 alcohol free beers at €4.80 each. Overall, the fish was divine, service efficient and the place was hopping when we were leaving. Tip: arrive as close to opening time as possible, get the hot and cold seafood selection and be prepared for a wait. Be assured it 'll be worth it.

Great spot for the freshest food around! Have had the hake at several local spots but here is something very special! The hot and cold plate is divine and the atmosphere is perfect, easy to see why the locals come here.

We visited O’Neill’s on a wild wet and windy day in July. 7 of us and we had a good selection off the menu plus a couple of lovely Smithwicks! Very friendly service and great seafood as always. This is a seafood pub so no point in looking for a burger! Despite the appalling weather there was a queue for tables as we left. That is some compliment to O’Neills.

What can I say about this place. Never disappointed with a meal here. Amazing sea food served in one of the friendliest restaurants. Staff so polite and helpful. Can’t recommend O’Neill’s enough.
