I was charged twice for one meal and had to go back THREE times to sort it out with attitude from the staff. Food was mediocre too, but for the price definitely not worth it. There's a place down the road 'The Vietnamese' - similar cuisine but better quality, service, and price.
Haven't back to King of King for almost 10years since the Chinese Lady Boss pass away. When I walk up the first impression to me is the time back to 1990's and bring me lots of memories. Everything didn't change there only our child grows up, me and my wife getting old.
I remember having an excellent sambal prawn here about a decade ago. I do enjoy Malaysian food made well, so this gives me another reason to head to this place soon.
One of the worst "Chinese" restaurants I've been to in Brisbane. Food is definitely not worth the price, tastes really bland. "Scallop dumpling" is 3/5 prawn, 1/5 dumpling skin, 1/5 scallop. Just doesn't taste like a legit Chinese restaurant at all. Hands down would never visit again. Tea was passable though. Also a 5% discount when you pay with cash?
I've been here several times over the last 25 years; and, it has been in decline the whole time - albeit in small increments. Its former glory was as one of the reigning yum cha destinations in Brisbane. When I lived in rural NSW we would drive into Brisbane for our twice-a-year yum cha fix (my parents were from HK and this pilgrimage was quite a cultural necessity for them). When you are from the country... there's not a lot of choice. When I first moved to Brisbane it was still ok... easy to get to by public transport as I was living in the inner city back then. And if the dishes were hot (in temperature) then the food tended to be ok. Fast forward to my last couple of visits in the last year and I can say these were the least appealing of all my visits. It seems a shadow of its former glory. The only asian patrons appear to be large groups of tourists that have been forced into having lunch here by long term tour group agreements. No one seems to be enjoying the food... is this a money laundering operation? Grandpa sits at the til, watching over everything. The attractive son of the owner no longer busies himself among the guests, sadly... he is no where to be seen. Verdict: go for the curiosity of seeing a famous long standing institution... but do not order too many dishes until you're sure they're having a good day!
